Thank God I live in a state that doesn't pull that kind of crap. I see all
shades of tint, from light to limo dark tint, and all kinds of colored
mirror tints on cars around here. There are tint gradient laws, but they're
never enforced. We don't have inspections, either. The downside is, you've
got people running around with inoperative safety equipment (a head light
out, no tail lights or brake lights, etc.), bald tires, cracked
windshields, etc. If you're pulled over for a traffic violation, and the
cop notices any of this, however, he can ticket you, and then you have to
get it fixed!

Sounds like Rhode Island, is that where you live, Chris?
I am always surprised at the difference in RI cars, legal to go over the
road, that would fail safety inspections in Mass.
I think Rhode Island cars are required to have one headlight out and a
cracked windshield to pass inspection.
Also, they dyno the cars, not to test the emmissions but to measure the
power output. They use that info to set the speed limit for "that" car. A
560 in decent condition would have a speed limit of @140 mph.
A Dodge Neon would have its speed limit at @80mph, etc.
I passed inspection at a different station the other day. That guy didn't
suspect the tint was illegal.
