[W126 Coupe] Trunk won't open

Here is a strange one.  Don't know quite what
happened, since my dad is driving my 85 SEC, (my mom
is driving his SEL until we get her a new car).  He
said one day he went to open the trunk and it won't. 
I just tried it and it sounds like the latch pops to
let the trunk open, but it still holds on to it.  Any
ideas, I assume the thing just as to be lubricated,
but how can I get it open to get to that point?
