[W126 Coupe] tornado air twister

Well, what I'm thinking is that by starting with a wide opening, then
going small, in the air intake, you get an increase in velocity so a
reduction in pressure causing the pressure in the air intake drop below
1 atm, causing it to suck in air, so there's no need for a vortex.

Hey Richard,
I think you're getting "vortex" and "venturi" (venture?) confused. A
venturi is simply an opening, vortex is a rapid swirling motion. No,
unless it was already designed to create a vortex when air enters the
intake, the air simply flows straight in, except for what turbulence is
created by obstructions in the passageways, and irregularities in the
castings. Some manufacturers do design this feature in, though, such as
GM's Vortec 4's, V6's and V8's.
Later,
Chris
