I'm not going to even qualify that with an answer.

But then you're changing intake size which lets the engine take in more
air. What I meant is this. Without changing exhaust and intake
characteristics (i.e. freeness of flow and volume) from the throttle
body down and without forcing in more air (and there's a reason it's
called forced induction: there's no other way to get that in), other
things won't make a difference. Otherwise, why not lean out the engine
to allow room for more air (well, I suppose because this doesn't work
with 4-stroke engines, and we do lean out 2-strokes to a point). Either
way, I think unless you make real, tangible changes in the exhaust
and/or intake flow, things like filters and such won't help performance.
Otherwise, why not just set the neutral stop on the MAF sensor to be
further open, and increase the travel of it to also extent the full open
position?

You don't have to adjust the mixture (though you should) even in our
cars.
You are missing the point. Engine is an air pump, the more air you can
get
in the more power you will have. If more air didn't help, why would
people
'port and polish' their intakes?

When you add boost don't you also adjust the mixture? Though I suppose
it might be different on the electronic injection cars. Also, boost
increases compression. Less air resistance doesn't.

The engine only takes as much air as it needs? I guess installing a
supercharger or turbocharger is a waste of time then.
Right about the filter defeating the 'vortex' though.

That's another thing I was thinking. It creates the vortex in the intake
tubing. One the air hits the filter, it will no longer be a vortex, no?
Plus, an engine will only take as much air as it needs, so you'd have to
put higher flow injectors, a higher flow fuel pump, a freer flowing
exhaust, and adjust timing for it to do anything, no?

Anything that creates a vortex in a chamber increases efficiency, If you
"spin" the air down a pipe, you can move more volume.Do they work in
engine
intakes?? Who knows, I know a person who uses one in his Impala SS and
he
swears by it.
PS, if you go to a company that specializes in different kinds of
fans,
you can buy a vortex type fan blades for about $5.00
