Richard,
I was not getting hot air at the floor vents and it turned out being the
left vacuum element behind the passenger's airbag (or glove box). Even
though those elements control the main & fresh air flap and not the floor
flap. I guess the vacuum leak prevented the system from working properly.
Dick Spellman and Jim Ham turned me on to George Murphy who sells the
diaphragms for $5 vs. $50 for a new element.
Contact is George Murphy, MB Technical Advisor and writer for Star. George

I forgot to ask, what vacuum elements control the flow of hot air versus
outside air? Clearly this leaky vacuum element is not my main problem
(apparently it just means that when I turn on the A/C, it will blow the air
at the windshield, but since my A/C doesn't work anyways, this doesn't
really affect me, though I suppose it could be why my vents never fully
close). My main problem has to do with something that directs the hot air to
the lower side vents and closes the center vents.
Thanks,
Richard

Subject: [W126 Coupe] Vaccum servos behind glovebox
Well, after taking off the center wood panel, I realized the vacuum leak is
one of the servos behind the glovebox (the one on the left). I've read a
write up about this somewhere. Anybody know where or got a link? Anybody
know where in which service manual this stuff is? And how do I get the servo
out of there?
Thanks,
Richard
