[LargeFormat] Chicago...tripods and the law

Dear Nieces and Nephews,

I hesitate to give advice about tripod photography in Chicago given that
I live on the diametric opposite side of the world and over here people are
not as jumpy, but....

When photographs of a new railway bridge with the city in the
background were contemplated it was realised that the best place for these
would be trackside off the freeway and around the side of a chain fence
barrier. All do-able, but conspicuous both to passing traffic cops and the
railway staff on the trains.
As it was to be a LF shot with tripod, all the more visibility.

Easy. A pair of blue overalls, a hard hat, and a flourescent orange vest
with "PHOTO" on the back in black electricians tape. Instant official
photographer, and not a squeak of interference from the law. All items
available at a local shop that sells safety gear.

Not applicable to Commonwealth Defence Force land as they run on federal
laws, but everywhere else it seems to work. Plus it keeps the hoodlums away.
