Any camera, properly locked down (tripod head locks, view camera rise,
fall, swing, tilt, focus, etc, all locked down) will always settle back to
the exact same place (although I have some doubts about some of the old
sloppy wooden field cameras!) This is why double exposures are possible
with nearly all cameras (some shutters cannot be re-cocked, however).
When you cock the shutter, you let things settle before making another
exposure.
