[LargeFormat] Advice on Lens Choice

Lauvone,
My suggestion is that unless you go to something like a 210 or shorter you
won't really be able to tell much of a difference from your 300. If you were
rounding out your collection of seven lenses (according to Richard Garrod
you need 7 lenses), then a 240 would fit in nicely. But if it's your second
lens then I'd get something with a little more separation.
I don't really know the specifications on the Zone VI camera, but I'm quite
certain Fred Picker designed it to handle lenses shorter than 300 without
having to change bellows.
I have four lenses for my Deardorff; a 165, a 210, a 300, and a 480. I use
the 165, 300 and 480 regularly, very occasionally use the 210; and I wish
for an 800. I have limited movements with the 165 due to the physical
restrictions of the much compressed bellows. But it works just fine. The
only reason I don't use the 210 much is that if I need the wider angle I'll
opt usually for the 165. Hence, when the choice is a water bottle or another
lens, the 210 doesn't always make it into the backpack.
Hope any of that is helpful.
Bob
