[LargeFormat] Acme/Ilex #4 shutter fix

Does this Acme shutter have a slow speed escapement? If it does that's the
place to start looking. I have never taken a shutter to pieces as I know
what the result would be - I try to fix shutter problems now by taking the
optical glass out and standing the shutter on edge in a jam jar on a few
pennies with a small amount of petrol lighter fluid in the bottom of the
jar and the lid screwed on the jar. The solvent properties of petrol make
congealed lubricant fluid again after two hours and in many cases the
shutter speeds become correct to half a stop or less. (I have a small
Calumet speed tester) A honey jar is better for big shutters- it has a wider
lid. A Compound shutter might not benefit from this treatment as it is
mostly pneumatic. I only tried it on old Compurs and it works a treat.
Even so I fire a shutter a few times if it's been unused for months. Philip
