Subject: [LargeFormat] Kodak Film Changes!

>
> This may be old news to some people, however as I don't use a lot of Kodak
film for LF work it only just came up on my radar :-) The info found
doesn't mention LF film specifically but I guess that "all" includes all
sizes of their emulsions. Anyway, here is the notice taken from the
digital
truth web site:

"Kodak Revisions: Due to a change in film base, Kodak has announced that
all TMax, Plus-X and Tri-X films are to be rereleased with revised names
and development times. The new films are replacing the old ones as stock
runs out, and Kodak anticipates the changeover taking place soon. Existing

development times differ only marginally from the new times, so all
current
development data remains perfectly usable as starting points."

There is a list of the new names for the films and photos of the new and
old packaging linked from
http://www.digitaltruth.com/chart/tables/kodaklookup.html

Cheers,
            Clive

Kodak moved B&W film manufacture to a new facility, I think for economic reasons. One announcement stated that the overcoating on the new versions of the films was different. Perhaps there are differences in emulsion formulation also.
Several sheet films have been discontinued. Among them are: Plus-X and Ektapan. Tri-X will be continued. Plus-X will continue to be made in roll-film and 35mm film. This is a different emulsion from the sheet film sizes with quite different sensitometric characteristics.
Agfa has also discontinued some sheet film in 8x10. It is getting harder to find a variety of sheet film in larger sizes.
However, Ilford is making a medium contrast ortho film in at least 4x5, I think the last pictorial (as opposed to copy) ortho film left on the market.
