The most important service which eBay provides is that of bringing together
a buyer and a seller.  Most important if you have an odd camera that you
happen to need a particular lens for, or something of that ilk.

It is a common scam to list an item at too high a price to sell and then
wait for the personal e-mails to come in after the auction closes, thus
avoiding eBays fees.

As I said earlier, while it might be legal, it isn't ethical.
