Brock - Linux and the Gimp running here on the sever next to the Mac. 
Uptime was about 8 months until we had a power cut!

I highly recommend the Microtek ScanMaker 4  - have just answered 
this question off the list!  It does up to and including 8x10 
trannies in a tray rather than from the glass top. If you look around 
you may still find one for a good price as they recently released a 
new model (loads more money) and to sell of the 4s they packaged them 
with SilverFast - probably one of the best pieces of scanning 
software available, including anything Open Source!
