<html><div style='background-color:'><DIV>After having limited success in scanning 4x5 B&amp;W negatives using a Microtek scanner, have recently discovered why this will always be a difficult process using the under glass tray.&nbsp; The light from the scanner is highly collimated and will cause a large amount of scattering when it passes through the negative. Using chromogenic films that rely on dye will not cause the same problems, however films such as Ilford XP2 have now been discontinued in 4x5 sizes.</DIV>
<DIV>&nbsp;</DIV>
<DIV>So, it seems that to generate a diffuse light source with a scanner requires a trannie hood or similar device to diffuse the light from the scanner tube. I seem to remember an article somewhere on how to construct a pyramid shaped cardboard attachement for scanners to allow trannie/neg scanning from above the glass of the scanner.</DIV>

<DIV>Does anyone remeber reading something similar?&nbsp; Perhaps there is something out there on the web - URL?</DIV>
<DIV>&nbsp;</DIV>
<DIV>Cheers,</DIV>
