In recognition of the passing of Les Newcomer's 65 mm Super Angulon.
This spunky lens gained brief notoriety on this list when it was learned
that in 1989 it jumped off a 16 ft sewer pipe into a vat of stagnant raw
sewage while inside a Crown Graphic.

It survived the fall, going on to make many great photographs including
the "outflow control" photograph on this site.

It took its last photograph on Mackinac Island on Memorial Day of this
year, when it suffered an infarction of the shutter leaves.

It had been on bench support until early this month when it was air
shipped to Dr.SK Grimes, Feinmechanik and Orthographic Surgeon. It was
hoped that an inter-leaf transfusion was possible, but Dr. Grimes found
that beyond a complete shutter transplant, there was nothing to be done.

Since the US has a critical shortage of transplantable Compur shutters
particularly the synchronized version of the 0 size, (that would make it
an 0+?) it was decided to let fate take its course.

The lens will be interred in the "Top Bureau Drawer" Mortuary where
several other lenses lay in state. Visitation and funeral services were
not planned but flowers, er photographs of flowers (SMALL FILES) sent to
Mr. Newcomer's email address would be considered, "Damned funny."

Mr. Newcomer is all for organ harvesting and is currently resarching the
use of the cells, although in light of the current political situation,
will probably not ask for federal funding.

The Super Angulon is survived by a larger twin, a 90 Super Angulon, a
half brother, a 90 Angulon and a cousin, a 58 mm Grandagon.

Mr. Newcomer says that he will get another 65 mm SA, "Not to replace
this one, but to keep its memory alive."
