Shutter Speed Testing (was Re: [LargeFormat] rest)

The new Copal shutters are v accurate except 1/500 is slow. The older
SynchroCompurs are less accurate, but most are within 1/3 of a stop. 1/500
is invariably slow. Some speeds are actually shorter than they should be by
1/3 to 1/2stop but overexposure is more common. I am sticking a correction
strip on the lens boards. For negative film slight overexposure doesn't
bother me but I would like to get transparencies accurately exposed. Can
anyone tell me how to test my CdS lightmeter's accuracy? Meter off a white
surface and compare it with my Nikon? Bracket exposures in half-stops?
