Research out of Edinburgh awhile back indicated that the virus can be 
successfully killed by using formaldehyde on surfaces within the barn (not on 
the animal). If I remember correctly the study indicated that the virus does 
not live long in outside areas exposed to sunlight. Wish I could remember 
more. I lost the article during one of my computer crashes.
