Carol,
The problem is that you used the wrong kind of date/time when you =
originally wrote the documents. Now when you go back to them they =
automatically set the date to today's date. Once you over-write the date =
you destroy the automatic setting and the date stays where you set it.
So from now on if you follow Virginia's and Blake's suggestions on how =
to get rid of the automatic date on new documents, and correct the date =
on the old documents, all should be well.
Dick

This is one of those frustrating little problems. I had actually =
checked help but sometimes if you don't know the question to ask, it is =
difficult to get the answer. I was hoping that I was just asking the =
wrong question. I don't want the date to change to current. What is =
happening is most (but of course not all) Word documents that I open =
change the date to the current date. I manually change it back and save. =
Next time I open its fine. I have checked everything I can find in help =
and made sure everything is unchecked that should be unchecked but I =
think I must be missing one of those little check boxes somewhere.

Carol,
On Toolbar at top of Word - Insert, Date and Time - will open a menu =
that has a checkbox that says "update automatically". Uncheck it.
Another potential problem is mentioned in Word Help:
Update fields to display the latest information
If new information becomes available, you can update a field to =
produce new field results.=20
a.. To update a single field, click the field or the field =
results, and then press F9.=20
To update all fields in a document, click Select All on the Edit =
menu, and then press F9.=20
Tip You can update all fields in a document each time you print =
it. Click Options on the Tools menu, click the Print tab, and then =
select the Update fields check box.
Hope this Helps,
Blake...

What have I recently checked or unchecked in Microsoft Word =
(version 2000) that causes the date to change to current on every =
document that I open, no matter what the original entry date was.
Thanks
