Wally: I appreciate all of the suggestions that you and many TCCUG =
members provided. I eventually prayed upon the chairman of the Board to =
provide me with a total new tower. It arrived and was installed by a =
tech rep from C&W computers named Jason. All of the data was =
transferred and I have enjoyed more than 30 hours of crash free =
operation with the new computer. I will probably never know the =
hardware problem but I am convinced that there was a very evasive =
problem somewhere in the components and after almost 9 months I am =
delighted to have a working computer even with ME> Thanks againto all =
helpers from TCCUG

Hi Clark, Wally Neilson here;
Please don't get your hopes up just yet, I don't have a simple =
solution for your problems; but can you tell me more about them. When =
you get your lock-ips are there any error messages? If not, when the =
lock-up occurs will the CTRL-ALT-DEL combination bring up the End Task =
Window? If it dows, which application is shown highlighted?
One thing you could try is as follows: Start your machine, when you =
get to the Desktop screen "End Task" everything except Explorer and =
Systray. (If you have an always-on broadband connection--not a dial-up =
modem, disconnect the cable or the DSL line), and then run your machine =
normally and see if you still get the lock-ups. If you don't (which I =
hope would be the case), repeat the drill but leaving one more =
application not terminated. If still no problem, keep adding back one =
application a day or every two days, until you begin to experience =
lock-ups. Take off the last two applications you had added back and see =
if the system works OK. If it does; put one of the two back. If it is =
still OK skip over the last one you had added back (it presumably is the =
culprit) and continue adding applications. When you are through, with =
any luck, you will be running OK but one of your applications will be =
the suspect. Add that one back in and see if the problem returns, if it =
does, take that application off again. If the problem goes away, look =
for new drivers for that application, or a later version of same.
Hope this helps,
Wally Neilson
