Recently after a power interruption the resolution went to 640 X 480 by itself and I have not been able to restore the 1024 x 768 setting. I can move the slider in the settings box to the 1024 position but when I exit the box it returns to the 640 position. There doesn't seem to be any "apply" button to hold the 1024 setting. I have tried combinations of setting, resetting and rebooting to no avail. Everything else seems to be working o.k. Has anyone got any ideas about how I can restore the 1024 setting ? This would be a great place to pitch the value of uninterruptable power sources . Your machine is probably defaulting to a standard VGA 640 by 480 pixels and a 16 color palette. First suggestion for fixing it: Call your computer vender's support line and let them help you through it. Second method: Go to your device manager (Right click My Computer, Select Properties, Then Device Manager) Scroll through to "display adapters" Click the + sign and check if there are any exclamation points inside of yellow balls under the display addapter. 'Remove' any entry that has this error indicator. Restart the machine and windows may correctly install the drivers. If not go to: Suggestion three: Arm yourself with your computer technical information, video drivers disk, system restore disks, and reinstall the video drivers for you machine. If you are not comfortable with this, or you don't have a computer nerd buddy who can do it for you, then I would again recommend trying the first suggestion. I had two or three problems, one of which I can't seem to solve. I have the program Ultimate Family Tree 2.0 and it will not run. I would just as soon get a newer, better, genealogy program. However, I would want to transfer the date from old to new automatically, not keying in 800 entries all over again. So I have two questions: 1. What is a recommended genealogy program? and 2. How will I transfer my data from old to new? Thanks for any help. (1) I would assume that you have backup copies of your data. If you = don't, then make them now! Find the data files in Family Tree (use the = User's Manual if necessary) and copy them to diskette(s). (2) I wouldn't expect there to be anything strange about Family Tree 2. = Is it perhaps a DOS program? How does it not run? What happens? (3) I'm not familiar with genealogy programs so to be safe, if I were = changing programs, I would get a later version of Family Tree. That = maximizes the chances that the data files will be useable. Is Family = Tree different from the popular Family Tree Maker? You should probably = check whatever program you consider getting to be sure it will use the = data files from your present program. Sorry I had more questions than answers, but maybe we can get the old = program going again with a little work.
