Trickle Up Mali, Sevare, Mali*
Disabled people in the towns and villages of Mali are amongst the poorest of
the poor, the majority surviving by begging, or complete dependency on their
family. Despite a theoretical commitment to advancing the rights of disabled
people, so far there are few initiatives or activities promoted by the
Malian government, and very limited opportunity for disabled people
themselves to participate in lobbying and advocacy. Based at Trickle Up's
Mali's office in Sevare, you will work with disabled peoples' associations
to build their capacities in communication so that they may have a stronger
voice in family and community life, as well as supporting communications
within Trickle Up and with its other partner organisations in the Mopti
region. You will develop strategy, provide training, accompany the disabled
peoples' associations in their activities, and support their lobbying and
campaigning. Your should have qualifications and experience related to
communications, including events and media experience (radio/TV). ideally in
an African context, a highly flexible, adaptable and culturally sensitive
approach, a demonstrable commitment to working with disabled people, and

Hello Friends of Guinea,

I am a graduate student in political science at UCLA and am looking  
forward to visiting Guinea for two weeks this winter. I will be  
arriving the evening of December 14th and don't yet have any contacts  
in Conakry. Will any of you be there at that time?  A former PCV has  
warned me that it could be dangerous trying to get around at night,  
and I would so appreciate having someone to meet. I'd also welcome any  
advice you could offer about the logistics of traveling in in and  
around the city (transport, accommodations, etc). While I have spent  
time in West Africa, this will be my first trip to Guinea, so I'm not  
sure what to expect.

Please feel free to contact me. I'd be glad to provide more details  
about my research and would be interested to hear about your  
experiences.

I found your website while desperately searching for information on Guinea.  I work for a travel organization www.livingpassages.org and we are planning a 70 day program to West Africa.  Our programs are a mixture of vacation and missionary work (you can see from our website), one of the stops we would like to include is Guinea.  Our guests spend a couple days in each country and while they have the opportunity to offer their services where needed, we also want them to get out and explore the country.  My issue is that I am having a VERY difficult time finding any information on Guinea and available excursions for approximately 15-25 people.  The information I do find is very vague and does not give any detail (example: Grottes de Bogoro and the rock formations, but doesn't state what the rock formations look like or their texture or anything).
 
Do you think you could assist me with my research for Guinea?  I would be so appreciative.  If not, do you know where I could go to for help?

Karou Voyages is the most reputable travel agency within Guinea.  Not sure if they have a website but if you are a French-speaker you can find their number and call.  You should know that Guinea is not a very tourist friendly country.  Infrastructure is very poor and political instability has been on the rise as of late.  But, as a former PC volunteer in Guinea, I think it is the gem of West Africa!
