The general rule of thumb is that you use powers of 10 when dealing with networking and powers of 2 when dealing with storage (disk, RAM). Note that ethernet is 10^6 bit/sec, fastE is 10^7 bit/sec, etc. So flow-tools is doing the right thing. mb
