      1.   2003 - WHAT IS LIKELY TO HAPPEN?=20
      By Jan Willem van der Hoeven - Director: International Christian =
Zionist Center
      December 30, 2002=20

      HNotwithstanding all the words, broadcasts and articles being =
aired concerning the possibly imminent war with Iraq - a war carried out =
chiefly by United States-led forces, there may be some other unpleasant =
surprises in store for us in the days ahead.

      One thing is certain. Broadly speaking, ISLAM will not take this =
"infidel" assault on a fellow Muslim nation and leader, Saddam Hussein, =
- who has called himself "the most faithful servant of Allah" - lying =
down, but will react violently and extremely dangerously to it, in more =
than one way.

      There are various groups and even nations ready and willing to be =
conduits of this terror and hatred against the West. The al-Qaida is =
certainly one such group, which has its "sleepers", reportedly thousands =
of them, already positioned in the West.=20

      Then there is Syria, a country at war with Israel, and which in =
cowardly fashion fights this war by proxy via the murderous and =
dangerous Hizb'Allah in Lebanon, who Damascus constantly supplies with =
weapons and support.

      Besides Syria's own non-conventional weaponry, some of Iraq=92s =
weapons of mass murder have reportedly found their way to Syria to =
escape the scrutiny of the UN weapons inspectors currently working in =
Iraq to expose the truth about Baghdad's non-conventional weapons =
program.

      A mega attack by al-Qaida's trained and inspired agents in Israel =
as well as in the United States may become more and more probable.

      In addition, a joint Hizb'Allah-Syrian offensive from across =
Israel's northern border may become a real possibility in an attempt to =
divert world attention from the Iraqi theater of war, with far more =
devastating results for Israel than the threat posed by Saddam's few =
missile launchers!

      Because such a scenario could indeed unfold - one that may cost =
the lives of many, many Israelis - Israel should move now to make =
crystal clear what its policy will be in response to such brutal =
attacks.

      Regarding a possible Palestinian-al-Qaida inspired mega terrorist =
attack: Israel should unequivocally state that its response would be the =
immediate and official annexation of Judea and Samaria (the so-called =
West Bank). Israel should already announce this now, in the hearing of =
all the nations of the world, in order that they may convey to the =
Palestinian leadership the utter seriousness of the consequence of such =
a Palestinian attack on the Jewish state.

      Furthermore, in the light of such an utter disregard for the =
sanctity of Jewish life and territory, Israel should immediately bar any =
abuse or misuse of the Jewish people=92s most sacred place - the Temple =
Mount. Israel should announce that, starting right now, there will be no =
further tolerance of mosques or minarets on the Temple Mount that spew =
out incitement to violence and call for the overthrowing of God=92s =
people. Nor should the closure of this historically most important place =
to the Jews be permitted for one more day, and Israel should immediately =
insist on and ensure the right of Jews to visit and pray on their holy =
Temple Mount.

      In relation to a possible joint Hizb'Allah-Syrian attack, =
Jerusalem should unequivocally state that everything won and conquered =
by Israel as a result of Syria=92s third time aggression against her =
would remain permanently under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the =
State of Israel.

      This is how every normal nation would react.

      These three courses of action should be addressed and decided upon =
by the Israeli government now, before they occur, so that all the =
enemies of Israel and the nations of the world may know in advance the =
enormous price Israel will exact for the envisioned aggression against =
her!

      If such resoluteness would be unthinkable from a mild and mainly =
toothless government of national unity, then we need to pray and work =
for a government of decisiveness and courage - a type of war cabinet - =
which, during however short the period of its rule, would be able and =
willing to take these needed decisions.

      All this needs to be determined right away: that the "West Bank" =
will be immediately annexed; that Israel's authority will be =
reestablished on the Temple Mount; and that the Golan Heights will be =
placed off limits for future discussions as the price for three-fold =
aggressions. Also, that the water flow from the Hatzbani River into =
Israel will be absolutely secured as a consequence of Hizb'Allah's =
blatant aggression against Israel's settlements and cities in the north.

      All these steps should be announced now, as Israel's official =
planned response - also in honor and respect to all who will die in such =
a dastardly and painful attack - and Israel's government should =
immediately execute these moves in the event of any of these attacks.

      May President Bush choose to listen to God and His holy Word as =
never before - also through the fervent and constant prayers of God's =
children; concerning too God's place and plan for Israel - rather than =
to the advice of man that is based so often on what seems good and =
expedient for us.

      May God thus make President Bush a Cyrus of our time to Israel, =
for the deep blessing of both Israel and the United States.

      May God truly bring this to pass!

      In conclusion, then, as to what may soon happen in relation to the =
nations of the Middle East according to what appears to be unfolding in =
these days:

      Lebanon will become a fruitful field, and will experience a =
spiritual renewal and the end of the "terrible one" or the bringing to =
an end of the "one who terrorizes" after all the long years that =
terrorism has ruled that country! (see Isaiah 29)

      Syria may receive a severe beating in judgment for its constant =
hatred and warring against God's people - destruction on Damascus and =
the elimination of Syria as an evil negative power in the region. (see =
Isaiah 18)

      God will deal with Assyria, or Iraq, and the valley of Hinnom will =
have a central place in the soon-to-come spiritual revival that will =
come upon the people of Israel (see Isaiah 30:29-33):

      "You shall have a song As in the night when a holy festival is =
kept, And gladness of heart as when one goes with a flute, To come into =
the mountain of the Lord, To the Mighty One of Israel. The Lord will =
cause His glorious voice to be heard, And show the descent of His arm, =
With the indignation of His anger And the flame of a devouring fire, =
With scattering, tempest, and hailstones. For through the voice of the =
Lord Assyria will be beaten down, As He strikes with the rod. And in =
every place where the staff of punishment passes, Which the Lord lays on =
him, It will be with tambourines and harps; And in battles of =
brandishing He will fight with it. For Tophet was established of old, =
Yes, for the king it is prepared. He has made it deep and large; Its =
pyre is fire with much wood; The breath of the Lord, like a stream of =
brimstone, Kindles it."

      More and more Israelis will give heed, not to what the Israeli =
left or the Israeli right say, but to what God will say through His =
chosen channels and teachers (see Isaiah 30:18-21):

      "Therefore the Lord will wait, that He may be gracious to you; And =
therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For the =
Lord is a God of justice; Blessed are all those who wait for Him.For the =
people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem; You shall weep no more. He will =
be very gracious to you at the sound of your cry; When He hears it, He =
will answer you. And though the ord gives you The bread of adversity and =
the water of affliction, Yet your teachers will not be moved into a =
corner anymore, But your eyes shall see your teachers. Your ears shall =
hear a word behind you, saying, "This is the way, walk in it, Whenever =
you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left."=20

      And the United States, especially under the presidency of George =
W. Bush, will have the golden opportunity given to it by God Himself, to =
either choose to stand at the side of God and His people Israel, or to =
go the way of Europe and most of the other nations in 'playing it safe' =
out of a shortsighted policy of self-interest and expediency. May George =
W. Bush - probably the most prayed for president in the history of the =
US - choose to do also what is good for his nation - lest destruction =
will have to be visited also upon that great nation, as God warns =
through the same Prophet Isaiah:=20

      "For the nation and kingdom which will not serve you (Israel) =
shall perish, And those nations shall be utterly ruined." Isaiah 60:12

      May this not happen to America!=20

      2. ASTRONAUT SET TO TAKE ALL OF ISRAEL INTO SPACE WITH HIM=20
      By John-Thor Dahlburg and Lianne Hart, Los Angeles Times - =
December 21, 2002=20

      MIAMI - He is a coffee fiend, father of four and combat-tested =
fighter jock with more than 4,000 hours in the air. Next month, if the =
countdown goes as planned, Ilan Ramon will climb aboard a rocket and =
become the first Israeli in space.=20

      On Jan. 16, the space shuttle Columbia is scheduled to blast off =
from Kennedy Space Center carrying a seven-member crew, including Ramon, =
a 48-year-old colonel in the Israeli air force. For the native of Tel =
Aviv whose mother survived 1 1/2 years in the Auschwitz concentration =
camp, it is a sobering honor.=20

      "Being the first Israeli astronaut - I feel I am representing all =
Jews and all Israelis," Ramon said. "The fact that I'm the son of a =
Holocaust survivor - I carry on the suffering the Holocaust generation =
went through, and I'm kind of proof that even through all the horror =
they went through, we're going forward."=20

      In Israel, the term "astronaut" has roughly been equivalent to =
"space cadet" in American slang - that is, someone out of touch with the =
real world. But the 16 days the short-statured, extremely fit Ramon will =
spend in orbit are expected to give the Jewish state a new national =
hero, as well as a welcome respite from the usual dreary litany of =
Middle Eastern news.=20

      "It's like the first Israeli to win an Olympic medal," said Mark =
Regev, spokesman for the Israeli Embassy in Washington, when asked to =
gauge the level of interest back home in Ramon's flight. "I think all =
Israelis are looking at Ramon. He is the first one of us to go up =
there."=20

      The ongoing suicide bombings, shootings and other manifestations =
of the Israeli-Palestinian struggle, plus the mounting likelihood of a =
war in neighboring Iraq, "are precisely why this flight is big news," =
Regev said. "It is the sort of thing Israelis will be able to feel good =
about."=20

      The mission, originally scheduled for January 2000, has been =
delayed several times, said Bruce Buckingham, a spokesman for Kennedy =
Space Center. Ramon would become the second person from the Middle East =
to travel on a U.S. spacecraft. A member of the Saudi royal family, =
Prince Sultan Salman Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, flew on the space shuttle =
Discovery in 1985.=20

      Ramon, a former F-16 squadron commander and chief of =
weapons-system development acquisition for the Israeli air force, has =
been training since 1998 at the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in =
Houston, representing the Israel Space Agency.=20

      As a payload specialist, Ramon's main responsibility will be to =
use a multispectral camera in space to track dust particles from the =
sandstorms that blow from the Sahara over the Mediterranean and Middle =
East. The study, designed by scientists at Tel Aviv University, is =
intended to learn how the dust affects rainfall.=20

      It is a "scientific experiment," Ramon told reporters in Houston. =
"It has nothing to do with the military or reconnaissance operations."=20

      There have already have been a small number of Jewish astronauts, =
including Judith Resnik, who died in the 1986 Challenger disaster. But =
Ramon will be the first to adhere to Jewish dietary rules in space, =
eating kosher meals in sealed, self-heating pouches manufactured for the =
U.S. armed forces by an Illinois company.=20

      Though he said he isn't particularly religiously observant, Ramon =
has also had to ponder issues worthy of a Talmudic scholar. How, for =
example, to mark the Sabbath, which occurs every seven days and begins =
at sunset on Friday? Since it takes 90 minutes for the shuttle to orbit =
the earth, there arguably is a Sabbath every 10 1/2 hours in space. =
After consulting with two rabbis, Ramon plans to recite a kiddush on =
Friday evening, Houston time, if the mission permits.=20

      The prayer is traditionally said over a goblet of wine, but since =
Ramon is not allowed to bring wine on the shuttle, and it isn't =
practical to drink from a glass in a gravity-free environment, he will =
have to improvise, perhaps with a pouch of grape juice.=20

      The five-man, two-woman crew of shuttle mission STS-107 was at =
Cape Canaveral for a dress rehearsal this week, touring Kennedy Space =
Center, boarding Columbia and conducting drills in emergency exit =
procedures, NASA officials said. In the fall of 2001, the astronauts =
took a nine-day, get-acquainted wilderness hike through the Wind River =
Mountains of Wyoming, and Ramon's team spirit and unflappability left a =
strong impression.=20

      "You learn a lot about people when you're tired and hungry and =
carrying around a 60-pound pack for miles," said mission specialist =
David M. Brown, a Navy captain who will be the crew's flight surgeon. =
"He's a guy who now only carries his own share, but always looks for an =
opportunity to do things for other folks."=20

      NASA beefed up security around shuttle launches after the Sept. 11 =
terrorist attacks, reasoning that there was no higher-profile target for =
anyone intending to strike at U.S. interests or prestige. Agency =
officials refuse to say if the presence of an Israeli in Columbia's crew =
has led to even greater measures to guard against any attempted sabotage =
but express assurance that security is as tight as it needs to be.=20

      "We have taken an enormous amount of security interest, as we do =
with every single launch," NASA Administrator Sean O'Keefe has said.=20

      To see him blast off, Ramon has invited friends and relatives, as =
well as Ezer Weizman, a former president of Israel and one of the =
pioneer pilots in its air force. Ramon himself flew in the 1973 Yom =
Kippur War and the 1982 Israeli invasion of Lebanon, and survived a =
midair collision in which he ejected from his fighter jet.=20

      Shuttle crew members are allowed to carry a small bag of personal =
items into space, and in his, Ramon will include a simple =
black-and-white drawing borrowed from the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum in =
Jerusalem. It is the haunting work of a 14-year-old boy from =
Czechoslovakia, Petr Ginz, who died at Auschwitz in 1944. Ramon's mother =
lived to be liberated by the Russians but other family members perished =
in the Nazis' campaign against the Jews.=20

      "The picture is a drawing of Petr as he imagined himself looking =
at Earth from the moon," Ramon said. "I really feel I'm taking his =
imagination and fulfilling his wish of being there, of being his eyes."=20

      3. LOOKING AT THE FEAR IN THEIR EYES=20
      by Paula R. Stern, December 30, 2002 - IsraelNationalNews.com=20

      Sometimes, seeing the world through the eyes of our children gives =
us a deeper view of what we ourselves are feeling, but are working so =
hard to deny. By nature, most people strive towards optimism and hope. =
It's better not to seem a certain way or say a certain thing, and so we =
deny or keep our silence. But when we see these emotions in our =
children, we often realize that they are a mirror of what we ourselves =
are experiencing. Looking at the fear in their eyes, I wonder what =
childhood they will remember.=20

      We are a nation at war, on the verge of another war. We have =
become accustomed to a cycle of emotions that we experience with each =
new terrorist attack. Some attacks are worse than others, either because =
the human toll is high, because the victims were young, or because the =
timing or place was particularly barbaric. We've accepted that our buses =
will be targeted, that malls are fair game. But we cling to the idea =
that our homes are still sacred, our meals still a moment of isolation, =
our vacations outside Israel secure.=20

      When terrorists go into a home, as they did in Metzer and Itamar =
and Elon Moreh, when they violate our meals, as they did on Passover in =
Netanya, and again on a quiet Sabbath eve in Otniel, they have crossed a =
red line we set for ourselves. With the attack in Kenya, we felt hunted. =
Even there, so far from it all, we weren't safe.=20

      We may soon be involved in a war that has nothing to do with us, =
yet we will suffer the missiles. We whisper quietly among ourselves =
about plastic sheeting, water rations and flashlights, extra bedding if =
Saddam again chooses to terrorize at night. Few Israelis, if any, are =
able to function on a daily basis without some thought or concession =
made to the war we are in, and the war we are about to enter. These are =
our adult thoughts and feelings, so how could we believe that our =
children were sheltered?=20

      Yesterday, in the middle of a game of Scrabble, my daughter asked =
me how to spell SCUD. And last week, as I drove my son to school because =
he'd missed the bus, he began describing what he had learned from his =
teachers. Not math or science, not Torah or Gemara; he spoke of gas =
masks and the need for parents to put the masks on themselves first, and =
how he would be able to help us put the masks on the littler ones. In =
case of a chemical attack, with more details than I really want to know, =
he explained that you should douse your arm with flour, not water, as =
water will merely spread the chemicals further. He talked about =
inoculations, the symptoms that can be expected before and after giving =
yourself a shot.=20

      I do not know when or where the next terrorist attack will take =
place, though I am relatively certain there will be another one soon. I =
don't know when America will attack Iraq, or when Iraq will launch a =
missile against us. What I do know, or what I am slowly coming to =
realize, is that despite our attempts to shield them, deep down our =
children are experiencing the same feelings we have.=20

      Our children are afraid. They are afraid that there will be a war =
and afraid of having to put on gas masks. They are afraid of chemicals =
raining down on them and of terrorists coming into their towns and =
villages and into their homes. Sometimes, they are afraid to get on a =
bus. They are especially afraid for us, nervous when we come home late, =
and upset when the phone beeps with a message. They are afraid when =
their regular television program gets interrupted by a man and a map and =
concerned for friends and teachers who might live near whatever city or =
town might have just been attacked.=20

      Our children are angry. They are angry that people can come into =
their city and murder randomly. They are angry when they hear that the =
world has again condemned Israel, but somehow forgotten to condemn the =
terrorists. They are angry that Iraq wants to bomb us, when we aren't =
even threatening them and that we are expected not to react. They are =
angry that a teacher has been shot, a friend of a friend, the parents of =
a child in another grade in their school. And they are angry when we =
cannot explain that which is beyond explanation, cannot ease their pain =
and take away their fears.=20

      Our children are in mourning. They are mourning for the other =
children who are now orphans and for the children who have been injured =
in terrorist attacks. They mourn for the soldiers who died today and =
yesterday and the day before that. They mourn for the freedom they have =
lost, to be able to travel freely on buses without having the =
responsibility of calling parents who worry.=20

      Our children are confused. They are confused that a nation strong =
enough to win so many wars, cannot protect them. They are confused when =
they learn that the world continues to send money and support to =
organizations that sponsor the people who come into our cities and homes =
with guns and bombs to kill us. They are confused by a war that might =
begin or might not, in which we might or might not be targeted, and in =
which chemical weapons might or might not be used.=20

      Our children are resigned. Resigned to more attacks, more =
restrictions on their right to play, to travel, to relax. And, they are =
resigned to more deaths, more wounded, and more orphans. They are =
resigned to exploding buses, shooting attacks, suicide bombers in cafes =
and the army going in and out of Palestinian areas as part of an ebb and =
flow campaign that limits the ability of the terrorists to attack, until =
we are moderately successful. That is when the world steps in to condemn =
us and demand that we ease restrictions, and our children are resigned =
to this as well.=20

      Fear, anger, mourning, confusion and resignation. These are all =
feelings that children should not have and the weight of these feelings =
is difficult for a parent to bear. And there is more. Beyond the =
feelings they do have, lost in these wars, are other feelings that most =
children should have, and yet more and more, our children do not and I =
wonder what impact it will have on the people they will someday be. Our =
children are no longer shocked. They experience many emotions in the =
wake of a terrorist attack, but after two years of constant terror, they =
have lost the ability to be shocked. My daughter isn't shocked that =
someone would go into a market and blow himself up in an attempt to kill =
hundreds and destroy any chance of ever achieving peace in this land. My =
15-year-old isn't shocked that another nation might send chemical =
weapons against us and that he might have to don a gas mask. My =
12-year-old isn't shocked that in the midst of eating soup, four young =
men would be shot to death. My 7-year-old isn't even shocked to see the =
map on the television, indicating yet again, the site of the latest =
attack.=20

      Our children do not have faith in the justice of the world. They =
do not believe that others value their existence. They say the world =
would react differently, if the victims were not Jews or settlers. They =
mimic our words and our feelings, but they are too young to have already =
lost the ability to believe in the ultimate good of man, that justice =
will triumph over evil, that murderers will pay for their crimes. =
International media reports on the murder of two settlers, but our =
children know that the victims were two parents and that there are now =
two orphans, or three, or six or nine. Our children do not believe in =
the goodness of man.=20

      As we look into their eyes and their souls, it is up to us to give =
them the faith to overcome the fear and the anger. We must offer them a =
path through the confusion and the mourning. We have to let them go on =
buses and be outside with their friends because keeping them back is =
teaching them that fear is the correct and healthy path. We must make =
our children secure in the knowledge that we are doing our best to keep =
them informed and safe. We must listen and answer their questions, even =
though we ourselves remain tormented. We must tell them what might =
happen, what will be expected of them, and how we are preparing for all =
possible outcomes. And we must pray that it will be enough.=20

      Hopefully, someday, they will again have the ability to be shocked =
by evil, to believe in goodness, and to have faith in people. Despite =
our own uncertainties, we must help them deal with their fear and their =
confusion. We must make them, as Anne Frank once said, "believe, in =
spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart."=20

      4.   HIGHLIGHT ARTICLES=20
        a.. Is a Palestinian State a Foregone Conclusion? To all our =
friends, Jews and Christians, who believe in the Bible: this should be =
an encouragement for all of us. We may have many enemies, but with G-d's =
help we will fight together to ensure Israel's survival. We need to be =
passionate; in these crucial times we cannot afford to be complacent. =
The struggle for Israel's survival should occupy our thoughts - morning, =
noon and night.=20
        b.. No Peace in the Holy Land Can Palestinians, i.e. Muslims, =
live in peace with the Israelis? It seems doubtful to all but the most =
optimistic. Until Arafat declared "Palestinians" to be a distinct group =
within the Arabs of the Middle East that concept did not even exist. It =
is a fiction like everything else Arafat has said.=20
        c.. Road Map to Nowhere The fundamental flaw in the road map =
remains the belief that once the Palestinian side has a state of its =
own, it will be content to leave the state of Israel alone. The =
historical evidence and statements by Arafat and others give no reason =
to place any hope in such an outcome. Arafat has repeatedly pledged to =
take back Israel in its entirety, either all at once or piece by piece. =
That is the only pledge he can be relied upon to keep.=20
        d.. Road Map to Perdition Rather than demanding actual =
Palestinian reform and cessation of terror, the Orwellian road map calls =
for the Palestinians to regurgitate past statements to the effect that =
terrorism is a bad thing and declare that they plan to reform. In =
exchange, Israel will have to ban all Jewish construction activities in =
Jewish towns in Judea, Samaria and Gaza and withdraw IDF forces from =
Palestinian areas so that the Palestinians can think about making =
additional statements to the effect that they intend to reform =
themselves and stop murdering Israelis.=20

HAPPEN?</A></B>=20
      <P>By Jan Willem van der Hoeven - Director: International =
Christian=20
      Zionist Center<BR>December 30, 2002=20
      <P><FONT color=3D#800000 =
size=3D+2><STRONG>H</STRONG></FONT>Notwithstanding=20
      all the words, broadcasts and articles being aired concerning the =
possibly=20
      imminent war with Iraq - a war carried out chiefly by United =
States-led=20
      forces, there may be some other unpleasant surprises in store for =
us in=20
      the days ahead.
      <P>One thing is certain. Broadly speaking, ISLAM will not take =
this=20
      "infidel" assault on a fellow Muslim nation and leader, Saddam =
Hussein, -=20
      who has called himself "the most faithful servant of Allah" - =
lying down,=20
      but will react violently and extremely dangerously to it, in more =
than one=20
      way.
      <P>There are various groups and even nations ready and willing to =
be=20
      conduits of this terror and hatred against the West. The al-Qaida =
is=20
      certainly one such group, which has its "sleepers", reportedly =
thousands=20
      of them, already positioned in the West.=20
      <P>Then there is Syria, a country at war with Israel, and which in =

      cowardly fashion fights this war by proxy via the murderous and =
dangerous=20
      Hizb'Allah in Lebanon, who Damascus constantly supplies with =
weapons and=20
      support.
      <P>Besides Syria's own non-conventional weaponry, some of Iraq=92s =
weapons=20
      of mass murder have reportedly found their way to Syria to escape =
the=20
      scrutiny of the UN weapons inspectors currently working in Iraq to =
expose=20
      the truth about Baghdad's non-conventional weapons program.
      <P>A mega attack by al-Qaida's trained and inspired agents in =
Israel as=20
      well as in the United States may become more and more probable.
      <P>In addition, a joint Hizb'Allah-Syrian offensive from across =
Israel's=20
      northern border may become a real possibility in an attempt to =
divert=20
      world attention from the Iraqi theater of war, with far more =
devastating=20
      results for Israel than the threat posed by Saddam's few missile=20
launchers!
      <P>Because such a scenario could indeed unfold - one that may cost =
the=20
      lives of many, many Israelis - Israel should move now to make =
crystal=20
      clear what its policy will be in response to such brutal attacks.
      <P>Regarding a possible Palestinian-al-Qaida inspired mega =
terrorist=20
      attack: Israel should unequivocally state that its response would =
be the=20
      immediate and official annexation of Judea and Samaria (the =
so-called West=20
      Bank). Israel should already announce this now, in the hearing of =
all the=20
      nations of the world, in order that they may convey to the =
Palestinian=20
      leadership the utter seriousness of the consequence of such a =
Palestinian=20
      attack on the Jewish state.
      <P>Furthermore, in the light of such an utter disregard for the =
sanctity=20
      of Jewish life and territory, Israel should immediately bar any =
abuse or=20
      misuse of the Jewish people=92s most sacred place - the Temple =
Mount. Israel=20
      should announce that, starting right now, there will be no further =

      tolerance of mosques or minarets on the Temple Mount that spew out =

      incitement to violence and call for the overthrowing of God=92s =
people. Nor=20
      should the closure of this historically most important place to =
the Jews=20
      be permitted for one more day, and Israel should immediately =
insist on and=20
      ensure the right of Jews to visit and pray on their holy Temple =
Mount.
      <P>In relation to a possible joint Hizb'Allah-Syrian attack, =
Jerusalem=20
      should unequivocally state that everything won and conquered by =
Israel as=20
      a result of Syria=92s third time aggression against her would =
remain=20
      permanently under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the State of =
Israel.
      <P>This is how every normal nation would react.
      <P>These three courses of action should be addressed and decided =
upon by=20
      the Israeli government now, before they occur, so that all the =
enemies of=20
      Israel and the nations of the world may know in advance the =
enormous price=20
      Israel will exact for the envisioned aggression against her!
      <P>If such resoluteness would be unthinkable from a mild and =
mainly=20
      toothless government of national unity, then we need to pray and =
work for=20
      a government of decisiveness and courage - a type of war cabinet - =
which,=20
      during however short the period of its rule, would be able and =
willing to=20
      take these needed decisions.
      <P>All this needs to be determined right away: that the "West =
Bank" will=20
      be immediately annexed; that Israel's authority will be =
reestablished on=20
      the Temple Mount; and that the Golan Heights will be placed off =
limits for=20
      future discussions as the price for three-fold aggressions. Also, =
that the=20
      water flow from the Hatzbani River into Israel will be absolutely =
secured=20
      as a consequence of Hizb'Allah's blatant aggression against =
Israel's=20
      settlements and cities in the north.
      <P>All these steps should be announced now, as Israel's official =
planned=20
      response - also in honor and respect to all who will die in such a =

      dastardly and painful attack - and Israel's government should =
immediately=20
      execute these moves in the event of any of these attacks.
      <P>May President Bush choose to listen to God and His holy Word as =
never=20
      before - also through the fervent and constant prayers of God's =
children;=20
      concerning too God's place and plan for Israel - rather than to =
the advice=20
      of man that is based so often on what seems good and expedient for =
us.
      <P>May God thus make President Bush a Cyrus of our time to Israel, =
for the=20
      deep blessing of both Israel and the United States.
      <P>May God truly bring this to pass!
      <P>In conclusion, then, as to what may soon happen in relation to =
the=20
      nations of the Middle East according to what appears to be =
unfolding in=20
      these days:
      <P>Lebanon will become a fruitful field, and will experience a =
spiritual=20
      renewal and the end of the "terrible one" or the bringing to an =
end of the=20
      "one who terrorizes" after all the long years that terrorism has =
ruled=20
      that country! (see Isaiah 29)
      <P>Syria may receive a severe beating in judgment for its constant =
hatred=20
      and warring against God's people - destruction on Damascus and the =

      elimination of Syria as an evil negative power in the region. (see =
Isaiah=20
      18)
      <P>God will deal with Assyria, or Iraq, and the valley of Hinnom =
will have=20
      a central place in the soon-to-come spiritual revival that will =
come upon=20
      the people of Israel (see Isaiah 30:29-33):
      <P><I>"You shall have a song As in the night when a holy festival =
is kept,=20
      And gladness of heart as when one goes with a flute, To come into =
the=20
      mountain of the Lord, To the Mighty One of Israel. The Lord will =
cause His=20
      glorious voice to be heard, And show the descent of His arm, With =
the=20
      indignation of His anger And the flame of a devouring fire, With=20
      scattering, tempest, and hailstones. For through the voice of the =
Lord=20
      Assyria will be beaten down, As He strikes with the rod. And in =
every=20
      place where the staff of punishment passes, Which the Lord lays on =
him, It=20
      will be with tambourines and harps; And in battles of brandishing =
He will=20
      fight with it. For Tophet was established of old, Yes, for the =
king it is=20
      prepared. He has made it deep and large; Its pyre is fire with =
much wood;=20
      The breath of the Lord, like a stream of brimstone, Kindles =
it."</I>
      <P>More and more Israelis will give heed, not to what the Israeli =
left or=20
      the Israeli right say, but to what God will say through His chosen =

      channels and teachers (see Isaiah 30:18-21):
      <P><I>"Therefore the Lord will wait, that He may be gracious to =
you; And=20
      therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For =
the Lord=20
      is a God of justice; Blessed are all those who wait for Him.For =
the people=20
      shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem; You shall weep no more. He will =
be very=20
      gracious to you at the sound of your cry; When He hears it, He =
will answer=20
      you. And though the ord gives you The bread of adversity and the =
water of=20
      affliction, Yet your teachers will not be moved into a corner =
anymore, But=20
      your eyes shall see your teachers. Your ears shall hear a word =
behind you,=20
      saying, "This is the way, walk in it, Whenever you turn to the =
right hand=20
      or whenever you turn to the left." </I>
      <P>And the United States, especially under the presidency of =
George W.=20
      Bush, will have the golden opportunity given to it by God Himself, =
to=20
      either choose to stand at the side of God and His people Israel, =
or to go=20
      the way of Europe and most of the other nations in 'playing it =
safe' out=20
      of a shortsighted policy of self-interest and expediency. May =
George W.=20
      Bush - probably the most prayed for president in the history of =
the US -=20
      choose to do also what is good for his nation - lest destruction =
will have=20
      to be visited also upon that great nation, as God warns through =
the same=20
      Prophet Isaiah:=20
      <P><I>"For the nation and kingdom which will not serve you =
(Israel) shall=20
      perish, And those nations shall be utterly ruined."</I> Isaiah =

INTO SPACE=20

      <P>By John-Thor Dahlburg and Lianne Hart, Los Angeles Times - =
December 21,=20
      2002=20
      <P><FONT color=3D#800000 size=3D+2><STRONG>M</STRONG></FONT>IAMI - =
He is a=20
      coffee fiend, father of four and combat-tested fighter jock with =
more than=20
      4,000 hours in the air. Next month, if the countdown goes as =
planned, Ilan=20
      Ramon will climb aboard a rocket and become the first Israeli in =
space.=20
      <P>On Jan. 16, the space shuttle Columbia is scheduled to blast =
off from=20
      Kennedy Space Center carrying a seven-member crew, including =
Ramon, a=20
      48-year-old colonel in the Israeli air force. For the native of =
Tel Aviv=20
      whose mother survived 1 1/2 years in the Auschwitz concentration =
camp, it=20
      is a sobering honor.=20
      <P>"Being the first Israeli astronaut - I feel I am representing =
all Jews=20
      and all Israelis," Ramon said. "The fact that I'm the son of a =
Holocaust=20
      survivor - I carry on the suffering the Holocaust generation went =
through,=20
      and I'm kind of proof that even through all the horror they went =
through,=20
      we're going forward."=20
      <P>In Israel, the term "astronaut" has roughly been equivalent to =
"space=20
      cadet" in American slang - that is, someone out of touch with the =
real=20
      world. But the 16 days the short-statured, extremely fit Ramon =
will spend=20
      in orbit are expected to give the Jewish state a new national =
hero, as=20
      well as a welcome respite from the usual dreary litany of Middle =
Eastern=20
      news.=20
      <P>"It's like the first Israeli to win an Olympic medal," said =
Mark Regev,=20
      spokesman for the Israeli Embassy in Washington, when asked to =
gauge the=20
      level of interest back home in Ramon's flight. "I think all =
Israelis are=20
      looking at Ramon. He is the first one of us to go up there."=20
      <P>The ongoing suicide bombings, shootings and other =
manifestations of the=20
      Israeli-Palestinian struggle, plus the mounting likelihood of a =
war in=20
      neighboring Iraq, "are precisely why this flight is big news," =
Regev said.=20
      "It is the sort of thing Israelis will be able to feel good =
about."=20
      <P>The mission, originally scheduled for January 2000, has been =
delayed=20
      several times, said Bruce Buckingham, a spokesman for Kennedy =
Space=20
      Center. Ramon would become the second person from the Middle East =
to=20
      travel on a U.S. spacecraft. A member of the Saudi royal family, =
Prince=20
      Sultan Salman Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, flew on the space shuttle =
Discovery in=20
      1985.=20
      <P>Ramon, a former F-16 squadron commander and chief of =
weapons-system=20
      development acquisition for the Israeli air force, has been =
training since=20
      1998 at the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Houston, =
representing the=20
      Israel Space Agency.=20
      <P>As a payload specialist, Ramon's main responsibility will be to =
use a=20
      multispectral camera in space to track dust particles from the =
sandstorms=20
      that blow from the Sahara over the Mediterranean and Middle East. =
The=20
      study, designed by scientists at Tel Aviv University, is intended =
to learn=20
      how the dust affects rainfall.=20
      <P>It is a "scientific experiment," Ramon told reporters in =
Houston. "It=20
      has nothing to do with the military or reconnaissance operations." =

      <P>There have already have been a small number of Jewish =
astronauts,=20
      including Judith Resnik, who died in the 1986 Challenger disaster. =
But=20
      Ramon will be the first to adhere to Jewish dietary rules in =
space, eating=20
      kosher meals in sealed, self-heating pouches manufactured for the =
U.S.=20
      armed forces by an Illinois company.=20
      <P>Though he said he isn't particularly religiously observant, =
Ramon has=20
      also had to ponder issues worthy of a Talmudic scholar. How, for =
example,=20
      to mark the Sabbath, which occurs every seven days and begins at =
sunset on=20
      Friday? Since it takes 90 minutes for the shuttle to orbit the =
earth,=20
      there arguably is a Sabbath every 10 1/2 hours in space. After =
consulting=20
      with two rabbis, Ramon plans to recite a kiddush on Friday =
evening,=20
      Houston time, if the mission permits.=20
      <P>The prayer is traditionally said over a goblet of wine, but =
since Ramon=20
      is not allowed to bring wine on the shuttle, and it isn't =
practical to=20
      drink from a glass in a gravity-free environment, he will have to=20
      improvise, perhaps with a pouch of grape juice.=20
      <P>The five-man, two-woman crew of shuttle mission STS-107 was at =
Cape=20
      Canaveral for a dress rehearsal this week, touring Kennedy Space =
Center,=20
      boarding Columbia and conducting drills in emergency exit =
procedures, NASA=20
      officials said. In the fall of 2001, the astronauts took a =
nine-day,=20
      get-acquainted wilderness hike through the Wind River Mountains of =

      Wyoming, and Ramon's team spirit and unflappability left a strong=20
      impression.=20
      <P>"You learn a lot about people when you're tired and hungry and =
carrying=20
      around a 60-pound pack for miles," said mission specialist David =
M. Brown,=20
      a Navy captain who will be the crew's flight surgeon. "He's a guy =
who now=20

      <B>3. &nbsp;&nbsp;<A name=3D3>LOOKING AT THE FEAR IN THEIR =
EYES</A> </B>
      <P>by Paula R. Stern, December 30, 2002 - IsraelNationalNews.com=20
      <P><STRONG><FONT color=3D#800000 =
size=3D+2>S</FONT></STRONG>ometimes, seeing=20
      the world through the eyes of our children gives us a deeper view =
of what=20
      we ourselves are feeling, but are working so hard to deny. By =
nature, most=20
      people strive towards optimism and hope. It's better not to seem a =
certain=20
      way or say a certain thing, and so we deny or keep our silence. =
But when=20
      we see these emotions in our children, we often realize that they =
are a=20
      mirror of what we ourselves are experiencing. Looking at the fear =
in their=20
      eyes, I wonder what childhood they will remember.=20
      <P>We are a nation at war, on the verge of another war. We have =
become=20
      accustomed to a cycle of emotions that we experience with each new =

      terrorist attack. Some attacks are worse than others, either =
because the=20
      human toll is high, because the victims were young, or because the =
timing=20
      or place was particularly barbaric. We've accepted that our buses =
will be=20
      targeted, that malls are fair game. But we cling to the idea that =
our=20
      homes are still sacred, our meals still a moment of isolation, our =

      vacations outside Israel secure.=20
      <P>When terrorists go into a home, as they did in Metzer and =
Itamar and=20
      Elon Moreh, when they violate our meals, as they did on Passover =
in=20
      Netanya, and again on a quiet Sabbath eve in Otniel, they have =
crossed a=20
      red line we set for ourselves. With the attack in Kenya, we felt =
hunted.=20
      Even there, so far from it all, we weren't safe.=20
      <P>We may soon be involved in a war that has nothing to do with =
us, yet we=20
      will suffer the missiles. We whisper quietly among ourselves about =
plastic=20
      sheeting, water rations and flashlights, extra bedding if Saddam =
again=20
      chooses to terrorize at night. Few Israelis, if any, are able to =
function=20
      on a daily basis without some thought or concession made to the =
war we are=20
      in, and the war we are about to enter. These are our adult =
thoughts and=20
      feelings, so how could we believe that our children were =
sheltered?=20
      <P>Yesterday, in the middle of a game of Scrabble, my daughter =
asked me=20
      how to spell SCUD. And last week, as I drove my son to school =
because he'd=20
      missed the bus, he began describing what he had learned from his =
teachers.=20
      Not math or science, not Torah or Gemara; he spoke of gas masks =
and the=20
      need for parents to put the masks on themselves first, and how he =
would be=20
      able to help us put the masks on the littler ones. In case of a =
chemical=20
      attack, with more details than I really want to know, he explained =
that=20
      you should douse your arm with flour, not water, as water will =
merely=20
      spread the chemicals further. He talked about inoculations, the =
symptoms=20
      that can be expected before and after giving yourself a shot.=20
      <P>I do not know when or where the next terrorist attack will take =
place,=20
      though I am relatively certain there will be another one soon. I =
don't=20
      know when America will attack Iraq, or when Iraq will launch a =
missile=20
      against us. What I do know, or what I am slowly coming to realize, =
is that=20
      despite our attempts to shield them, deep down our children are=20
      experiencing the same feelings we have.=20
      <P>Our children are afraid. They are afraid that there will be a =
war and=20
      afraid of having to put on gas masks. They are afraid of chemicals =
raining=20
      down on them and of terrorists coming into their towns and =
villages and=20
      into their homes. Sometimes, they are afraid to get on a bus. They =
are=20
      especially afraid for us, nervous when we come home late, and =
upset when=20
      the phone beeps with a message. They are afraid when their regular =

      television program gets interrupted by a man and a map and =
concerned for=20
      friends and teachers who might live near whatever city or town =
might have=20
      just been attacked.=20
      <P>Our children are angry. They are angry that people can come =
into their=20
      city and murder randomly. They are angry when they hear that the =
world has=20
      again condemned Israel, but somehow forgotten to condemn the =
terrorists.=20
      They are angry that Iraq wants to bomb us, when we aren't even =
threatening=20
      them and that we are expected not to react. They are angry that a =
teacher=20
      has been shot, a friend of a friend, the parents of a child in =
another=20
      grade in their school. And they are angry when we cannot explain =
that=20
      which is beyond explanation, cannot ease their pain and take away =
their=20
      fears.=20
      <P>Our children are in mourning. They are mourning for the other =
children=20
      who are now orphans and for the children who have been injured in=20
      terrorist attacks. They mourn for the soldiers who died today and=20
      yesterday and the day before that. They mourn for the freedom they =
have=20
      lost, to be able to travel freely on buses without having the=20
      responsibility of calling parents who worry.=20
      <P>Our children are confused. They are confused that a nation =
strong=20
      enough to win so many wars, cannot protect them. They are confused =
when=20
      they learn that the world continues to send money and support to=20
      organizations that sponsor the people who come into our cities and =
homes=20
      with guns and bombs to kill us. They are confused by a war that =
might=20
      begin or might not, in which we might or might not be targeted, =
and in=20
      which chemical weapons might or might not be used.=20
      <P>Our children are resigned. Resigned to more attacks, more =
restrictions=20
      on their right to play, to travel, to relax. And, they are =
resigned to=20
      more deaths, more wounded, and more orphans. They are resigned to=20
      exploding buses, shooting attacks, suicide bombers in cafes and =
the army=20
      going in and out of Palestinian areas as part of an ebb and flow =
campaign=20
      that limits the ability of the terrorists to attack, until we are=20
      moderately successful. That is when the world steps in to condemn =
us and=20
      demand that we ease restrictions, and our children are resigned to =
this as=20
      well.=20
      <P>Fear, anger, mourning, confusion and resignation. These are all =

      feelings that children should not have and the weight of these =
feelings is=20
      difficult for a parent to bear. And there is more. Beyond the =
feelings=20
      they do have, lost in these wars, are other feelings that most =
children=20
      should have, and yet more and more, our children do not and I =
wonder what=20
      impact it will have on the people they will someday be. Our =
children are=20
      no longer shocked. They experience many emotions in the wake of a=20
      terrorist attack, but after two years of constant terror, they =
have lost=20
      the ability to be shocked. My daughter isn't shocked that someone =
would go=20
      into a market and blow himself up in an attempt to kill hundreds =
and=20
      destroy any chance of ever achieving peace in this land. My =
15-year-old=20
      isn't shocked that another nation might send chemical weapons =
against us=20
      and that he might have to don a gas mask. My 12-year-old isn't =
shocked=20
      that in the midst of eating soup, four young men would be shot to =
death.=20
      My 7-year-old isn't even shocked to see the map on the television, =

      indicating yet again, the site of the latest attack.=20
      <P>Our children do not have faith in the justice of the world. =
They do not=20
      believe that others value their existence. They say the world =
would react=20
      differently, if the victims were not Jews or settlers. They mimic =
our=20
      words and our feelings, but they are too young to have already =
lost the=20
      ability to believe in the ultimate good of man, that justice will =
triumph=20
      over evil, that murderers will pay for their crimes. International =
media=20
      reports on the murder of two settlers, but our children know that =
the=20
      victims were two parents and that there are now two orphans, or =
three, or=20
      six or nine. Our children do not believe in the goodness of man.=20
      <P>As we look into their eyes and their souls, it is up to us to =
give them=20
      the faith to overcome the fear and the anger. We must offer them a =
path=20
      through the confusion and the mourning. We have to let them go on =
buses=20
      and be outside with their friends because keeping them back is =
teaching=20
      them that fear is the correct and healthy path. We must make our =
children=20
      secure in the knowledge that we are doing our best to keep them =
informed=20
      and safe. We must listen and answer their questions, even though =
we=20
      ourselves remain tormented. We must tell them what might happen, =
what will=20
      be expected of them, and how we are preparing for all possible =
outcomes.=20
      And we must pray that it will be enough.=20
      <P>Hopefully, someday, they will again have the ability to be =
shocked by=20
      evil, to believe in goodness, and to have faith in people. Despite =
our own=20
      uncertainties, we must help them deal with their fear and their =
confusion.=20
      We must make them, as Anne Frank once said, "believe, in spite of=20
      everything, that people are truly good at heart."=20
