      1.   FAITH UNDER FIRE=20
      Millions to expose underreported story - Christians around the =
world set aside Sunday to pray for persecuted=20

      By Art Moore - WorldNetDaily.com - November 8, 2002=20

      Recent deadly bombings in the Philippines' Muslim-dominated south =
and in Pakistan have drawn news coverage, but little has been made of =
the fact that these were attacks specifically aimed at Christians. On =
Sunday, however, one of the world's most neglected stories will be given =
attention by millions of people attending 300,000 churches in 130 =
countries.=20

      The International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church, now in =
its seventh year, has mobilized Christians to pray for an estimated 200 =
million Christians who suffer for their faith and another 400 million =
who live in countries where their religious practice is restricted.=20

      The IDOP grew out of a movement of evangelicals who also provided =
a groundswell of support to help make concern about religious =
persecution a factor in U.S. foreign policy. In 1998, Congress passed a =
bill to set up a section in the State Department on religious freedom =
and an independent panel to monitor religious freedom around the world. =
The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom makes policy =
recommendations to the president, secretary of state and Congress.=20

      Johan Candelin, the IDOP's global coordinator, based in Finland, =
says the venues for prayer this Sunday will be diverse, including many =
where the participants themselves are victims of persecution: "We will =
pray in big cathedrals in Europe, in small house churches in China, in =
the forest in Vietnam, in homes on Cuba, in secret meeting rooms in =
Saudi Arabia, in countryside churches in the US, in big meetings in =
Venezuela and in youth groups in Africa. =85"=20

      Persecution is on the rise, according to Candelin, because the =
Church is growing faster than ever before and mostly in countries where =
there is a strong anti-Christian sentiment driven either by politics, =
nationalism or religious ideology.=20

      He says that 1 million new churches have been started in the last =
10 years and twice that many are expected in the next decade. About =
70,000 new members are added each day.=20

      Terry Madison, president of the U.S. affiliate of a sponsoring =
group, Open Doors, says he has discovered in his travels that persecuted =
Christians often pray for believers in the West.=20

      "Their concern is that they would not be distracted by =
materialism," he said.=20

      Christians in the Central Asian country of Turkmenistan, Madison =
noted, told one of his group's leaders: "Please pray not that our =
persecution will go away, but that there will be enough persecution to =
keep us focused on our Lord, but not too much that it would break us."=20

      Countries of concern=20

      Totalitarian Turkmenistan, a former Soviet republic, is one of the =
nations recently recommended by the U.S. Commission on International =
Religious Freedom as a "country of particular concern," or CPC.=20

      Each fall, the secretary of state decides which countries are =
found to have "engaged in or tolerated particularly severe violations of =
religious freedom." Once a country is designated, the president opposes =
those violations with a specified action ranging from a diplomatic =
demarche, or reprimand, to economic sanctions.=20

      The list of countries the USCIRF has recommended to the secretary =
of state this year reflects the fact that most reported persecution of =
Christians is carried out under either Islamic or communist regimes.=20

      Islamic nations on the list are Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia =
and Sudan, while communist regimes are China, North Korea, Laos and =
Vietnam. The commission's recommendations also include India, where =
militant Hinduism is on the rise, and Burma's militaristic tribal =
regime.=20

      America's strategic ally and trading partner Saudi Arabia has been =
recommended several times, but never chosen by the secretary of state as =
a country of particular concern. Critics point out that this rejection =
is made despite the State Department's repeated assessment that freedom =
of religion in the kingdom "does not exist."=20

      In its report this year, the USCIRF says the "Chinese government =
remains a particularly severe violator of religious freedom. Persons =
continue to be confined, tortured, imprisoned, and subject to other =
forms of ill treatment on account of their religion or belief."=20

      In North Korea, according to the USCIRF, "religious freedom =
remains essentially non-existent. The commission says it has received =
reports "that officials have arrested, imprisoned, tortured, and =
sometimes executed North Korean citizens who were found to have ties =
with overseas Christian evangelical groups operating across the border =
in China, as well as those who engaged in such unauthorized religious =
activities as public religious expression and persuasion."=20

      Iraqi Christians have generally enjoyed freedom of worship," the =
USCIRF says, but "in early 2002, the Iraqi government reportedly passed =
a law placing all Christian clergy and churches under the control of the =
Ministry of Islamic Property."=20

      Christians praying this Sunday, however, are more likely to focus =
attention on places like Sudan, where a declared jihad by the militant =
Khartoum regime on the mostly Christian and animist south has resulted =
in more than 2 million deaths since 1983.=20

      Sudan's government is slaughtering Christians who refuse to =
convert to Islam, according to Dennis Bennett, executive director of =
Seattle-based Servant's Heart, a relief group working in the African =
nation.=20

      Villagers in several areas of the northeast Upper Nile region say =
that when women are captured by government forces they are asked: "Are =
you Christian or Muslim?"=20

      Women who answer "Muslim" are set free, but typically soldiers =
gang-rape those who answer "Christian" then cut off their breasts and =
leave them to die as an example for others.=20

      'Scapegoats of choice'=20

      Open Doors' Madison said that the International Day of Prayer has =
had a "marked impact on the church in America and its understanding that =
there is a part of our body that actually suffers for its faith."=20

      The prayer movement began in 1996 through coordination of the =
World Evangelical Alliance, a global umbrella of national church bodies. =
In 1998, Prayer for the Persecuted Church, Inc., took oversight of the =
IDOP organizing efforts in the United States while WEF continues to =
coordinate the IDOP internationally.=20

      Though a Christian effort, it got much of its spark from a Jewish =
lawyer, who remarked in a 1995 Wall Street Journal article that unless a =
serious effort is made to confront persecution, Christians are likely to =
become the "Jews of the 21st century, the scapegoats of choice of the =
world's thug regimes."=20

      Michael J. Horowitz, a former staffer for President Reagan, =
recalled that an Ethiopian pastor who lived with his family was denied =
asylum in the U.S. despite being jailed 25 times and enduring torture =
for his faith. The State Department sent a letter to the immigration =
service, he said, stating, "There is no persecution of Christians in =
Ethiopia."=20

      Horowitz, senior fellow at the Hudson Institute in Washington, =
D.C., said that on one occasion the pastor was hanged upside down with =
hot oil poured on his feet.=20

      Former New York Times columnist A.M. Rosenthal, also a Jew, was =
one of the first in the mainstream media to write about persecution of =
Christians.=20

      In one column, he said: "If I were a Christian, I would complain =
that Christian leaders, political, religious and business, around the =
world have failed in their obligations to fight oppression of their =
co-religionists. I am complaining anyway."=20

      Madison said that while most churches in the U.S. have a small =
core of believers with a passion to pray regularly and lobby on behalf =
of the persecuted church, most Christians who participate in the day of =
prayer don't retain their interest after Sunday.=20

      "Sadly, most church congregations listen, give assent to prayers =
=96 may actually pray them =96 but in terms of long-term change of life, =
I'm not sure that it's really moved and shaken the church the way we =
hoped it would," he said. "This is obviously something the Holy Spirit =
must do."=20

      2.   O CANADA; O NO, WASHINGTON=20
      Most Americans recognize that we are at war with people who use =
open societies as the sea in which to swim. Our neighbor Canada =
apparently does not; and we have serious questions about our State =
Department.=20

      U.S. immigration law requires the fingerprinting and photographing =
of people from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Sudan and Syria (the State =
Department's list of terror supporting countries) when they arrive here. =
It seems the least we could do. Last week, it was announced that =
Canadian citizens born in those five countries would be subjected to the =
same measures. Ottawa called it "discriminatory" and "unfriendly," and =
issued an advisory for its citizens to reconsider travel to the U.S. Our =
Ambassador in Canada immediately backed off.=20

      Why Canada? For starters, the Canadian Security Intelligence =
Service (CSIS) has a long and detailed dossier on the operations of =
Hizbullah in that country. The (Canadian) National Post reports that =
CSIS has documents detailing how Hizbullah laundered money through =
Canadian banks while drawing on the accounts to purchase military =
equipment - including blasting devices, night-vision goggles, powerful =
computers and camera equipment. According to the (Montreal) Gazette, in =
reports dated April 2002, CSIS showed that in 1999 and 2000, Hizbullah =
sent lists of required items to agents in Vancouver, Toronto and =
Montreal. The equipment was shipped to Lebanon by courier.=20

      The Post writes that Canadian police and intelligence reports show =
the group has been using Canada to forge travel documents, raise money =
and steal luxury vehicles. But, "Even as they lived in Canada with their =
families as immigrants the Hizbullah operatives apparently remained =
disdainful of their new surroundings, denouncing 'the Canadians and the =
Zionists' in a wiretapped conversation." According to CSIS, Hizbullah =
has been using Canada for more than a decade.=20

      CSIS made its information available to U.S. attorneys prosecuting =
Hizbullah operatives involved in a cigarette smuggling ring that raised =
huge sums of money. We took the information seriously; hence the concern =
about nasty people crossing what remains the longest undefended border =
in the world.=20

      The Canadian PM still defends Hizbullah as a political =
organization and even after the CSIS report, the Foreign Minister said =
of Hizbullah fund-raising, "We don't believe it would be appropriate to =
label as terrorists innocent doctors, teachers and other people who are =
seeking to do charitable and other good works in their communities." The =
Canadian government is naive in the extreme. But worse, the State =
Department responded to the huffy criticism of American caution by =
revoking the order. Has OUR government decided that phony cries of =
"discrimination" are a greater threat to American security than the =
possibility that people who used Canada's open society to plot and =
finance terrorism might come south? If monitoring bothers Canada, then =
let them issue their travel warning, and let those who are afraid of =
being photographed stay home.=20

      3.   POSITIVE! AN ISRAELI WOMAN'S VIEW=20
      I am not the least afraid to go any place,
      By bus or to a mall.
      I didn't change or stop doing anything
      I used to do before this mess began!
      People tend to forget that twice the casualties
      From terror get killed on the roads!
      More people still die from heart attack, cancer, and other things,
      They just don't show them on TV.
      Don't misunderstand me, there is a war going on,
      It's not pleasant, but, let's face it:
      WE HAVE NEVER BEEN BETTER OFF!!!!
      It's only TV and the media that make people think
      That the end of the world is coming.
      Only 60 years ago, they were leading Jews to their death like =
sheep to the slaughter!
      No Country, No Army. 55 years ago!!
      Seven Arab countries declared war on the small Jewish State, only =
a few hours old!!
      We were then 650,000 Jews! Against the rest of the Arab world! No =
IDF [Israel Defense Force].
      No mighty Air Force, just tough people
      With nowhere to go. Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Egypt, Libya, =
Saudi Arabia, attacked all at once.
      The country the U.N. "gave us" was 65 % desert.
      The country started from scratch!
      35 years ago!! We fought the three strongest armies in the Middle =
East, and wiped them out in six days.
      We fought against different coalitions of Arab countries,
      With modern armies, and masses of Soviet Russian weapons,
      And we still won!!! We have today a country, an army, a strong Air =
Force, a Hi-Tech Economy, exporting millions.
      Intel-Microsoft-IBM develop their stuff here.
      Our doctors win world prizes
      For medical developments. We made the desert flourish,
      Selling oranges and vegetables to the world.
      Israel has sent its own satellite into space!!
      Three satellites all together!!.
      We sit proudly, with the US, with 250 million people,
      With Russia, with 200 million people,
      With China, with 1.1 billion people,
      With the Europeans -- France, England, Germany, with 350 million =
people, the only countries in the world
      To shoot something into space!!
      Israel is today in the world nuclear power family
      With the U.S., Russia, China, India, France, and England.
      [We don't admit it, but every one knows...] To think that only 60 =
years ago, We were led, Shameful, With no hope, to our death!!=20

      We crawled out of the burning ashes of Europe,
      We won our wars here with less than nothing in our hands, we built =
an "empire" out of nothing.
      Who the hell is Mr. Arafat to make me scared?
      To make me be terrified?
      You make me laugh! Passover was celebrated;
      Let's not forget what the story is all about.
      We overcame Pharaoh, We overcame the Greeks,
      We overcame the Romans,
      We overcame the Inquisition in Spain,
      We overcame the Pogroms in Russia,
      We overcame Hitler,
      We overcame the Germans,
      We overcame the Holocaust,
      We overcame the armies of the seven Arab countries,
      We overcame Saddam.
      Take it easy, folks,
      We will overcome the present enemies, too.
      No matter which part of human history you try!
      Think of it, for us, the Jewish people, our situation has never =
been better!!! So, let's lift our heads high,
      Any nation or culture that tried to mess around with us
      Was destroyed - while we kept going!!!
      Egypt?
      Anyone know where their empire disappeared to?
      The Greeks?
      Alexander of Macedonia?
      The Romans? Does anyone today speak Latin?
      The Third Reich?
      Anyone heard any news about it lately?
      And look at us, the nation from the Bible,
      From Slavery in Egypt, We are still here,
      Speaking the same language!!
      Right here, right now.
      The Arabs don't know it yet,
      But, they will learn that there is one God.
      As long as we keep our identity, We are eternal.
      So, sorry for not worrying,
      Not bitching, Not crying, Not being scared.=20

      Things are O.K. here. They surely can be better, but still: Don't =
fall for the media junk, They won't tell you that there are Festivals =
going on, that people keep on living, that people are going out,
      That people are seeing friends.
      Yes, our morale is low, so what?
      It's only because we weep for our dead
      While they enjoy the blood.
      This is the same reason why,
      We will win, after all.
      You can forward this e-mail
      If you choose, to the whole Jewish community,
      And to people throughout the world.
      They are part of our strength.
      It might help some of them to keep their heads up high.
      Tell them that there is nothing to worry about.
      Tell them to think BIG, and to see the whole picture.

      4.   DUBIOUS COUNCIL=20
      Editorial - The New Republic=20

      "How many Frenchmen does it take to hold Paris?" goes the old =
joke.=20
      "Nobody knows."=20

      A little nasty, perhaps, but it suggests the deeper issue =
underlying France's continued opposition (as of this writing) to a =
resolution threatening force if Iraq obstructs U.N. weapons inspectors: =
Why is France on the Security Council at all? Paris got its permanent =
membership (and thus its Security Council veto) as a reward for having =
helped defeat Nazi Germany. But while the French suffered under Nazism, =
it was the Americans, Russians, and British who defeated it. (Winston =
Churchill's envoy to France famously called Charles de Gaulle the =
heaviest cross he had to bear during World War II.)=20

      Another rationale holds that France owes its seat to its status as =
an independent nuclear power. But India now boasts that distinction as =
well, and--with its massive population, growing economy, and third-world =
democracy--it would be a far more compelling choice. In truth, France's =
fantasies of grandeur--fantasies that are decades, if not centuries, out =
of date--would be laughable, except that they are taken seriously in =
Turtle Bay. And so the Bush administration must endlessly negotiate with =
a country whose Iraq policy is motivated by petro-dollars and =
anti-American resentment, particularly the anti-American (and =
anti-Western) resentment of its Muslim immigrant masses.=20

      Why not stop the charade and let France veto the Iraq resolution? =
The United States and its allies could, on their own, eliminate the =
unconventional weapons of that most unconventional tyrant, Saddam =
Hussein. And, as a side benefit, the United Nations would suffer a =
humiliation so profound that it might force some long-overdue =
reconsideration of the Security Council's anachronistic composition. For =
international organizations to be relevant, privilege must follow power, =
and for them to be admirable, privilege must follow decency.=20

      Nothing would more dramatically further both goals than dethroning =
France.=20

      5.   MARTYRED WITH A JOYSTICK=20
      National Post Editorial - November 06, 2002 - CP Photo, Tom Hanson
      =20

      Many commentators have noted that the war on terrorism will =
require a battle for the "hearts and minds" of the world's Muslim =
radicals. We agree. But it's also true that, when all else fails, some =
of the more incorrigible hearts and minds need to be atomized. That's =
where the U.S. Predator unmanned drone comes in.=20

      In northwest Yemen on Sunday, a certain Qaed Salim Sunian =
al-Harethi was travelling by car with five other notables when a =
Hellfire missile, released by a Predator soundlessly lurking at high =
altitude, hit his vehicle. Car and occupants were destroyed. But Mr. =
al-Harethi will not be missed by many, for he was one of the chief =
planners of the al-Qaeda attack on the USS Cole two years ago -- an =
attack that took 17 lives; his unfortunate friends were lower level =
al-Qaeda operatives.=20

      The operation was a model of cost-efficiency: For the price of a =
single air-to-surface missile, originally manufactured for anti-tank =
use, CIA officers and military personnel -- who guided the Predator from =
an air-conditioned control room in Tampa, Fla. -- eliminated six =
terrorists who were collectively responsible for dozens of murders and, =
presumably, were planning many more. The enterprise is believed to be =
the first lethal attack outside Afghanistan using the Predator (though =
Israel has deployed the weapon for its own, similar purposes). As such, =
Sunday's news represents a welcome advance in the U.S. war on terror.=20

      Surely we are not alone in our admiration for the Predator. Given =
Islamist terrorists' belief that dying in the struggle against the Great =
Satan guarantees them a place in heaven, such operations as Sunday's are =
win-win. Isn't automation wonderful?=20

      150,000 Arabs - But Not One Jew=20
      Close to 150,000 Arabs visited the Temple Mount today for the =

hand to ensure public order, and in fact no incidents were reported. A =
Jewish man wearing an Arab headdress (kefiye) was arrested at the =

      bombings in the Philippines' Muslim-dominated south and in =
Pakistan have=20
      drawn news coverage, but little has been made of the fact that =
these were=20
      attacks specifically aimed at Christians. On Sunday, however, one =
of the=20
      world's most neglected stories will be given attention by millions =
of=20
      people attending 300,000 churches in 130 countries.=20
      <P>The <A href=3D"http://www.persecutedchurch.org/">International =
Day of=20
      Prayer for the Persecuted Church</A>, now in its seventh year, has =

      mobilized Christians to pray for an estimated 200 million =
Christians who=20
      suffer for their faith and another 400 million who live in =
countries where=20
      their religious practice is restricted.=20
      <P>The IDOP grew out of a movement of evangelicals who also =
provided a=20
      groundswell of support to help make concern about religious =
persecution a=20
      factor in U.S. foreign policy. In 1998, Congress passed a bill to =
set up a=20
      section in the State Department on religious freedom and an =
independent=20
      panel to monitor religious freedom around the world. The <A=20
      href=3D"http://www.uscirf.gov">U.S. Commission on International =
Religious=20
      Freedom</A> makes policy recommendations to the president, =
secretary of=20
      state and Congress.=20
      <P>Johan Candelin, the IDOP's global coordinator, based in =
Finland, says=20
      the venues for prayer this Sunday will be diverse, including many =
where=20
      the participants themselves are victims of persecution: "We will =
pray in=20
      big cathedrals in Europe, in small house churches in China, in the =
forest=20
      in Vietnam, in homes on Cuba, in secret meeting rooms in Saudi =
Arabia, in=20
      countryside churches in the US, in big meetings in Venezuela and =
in youth=20
      groups in Africa. =85"=20
      <P>Persecution is on the rise, according to Candelin, because the =
Church=20
      is growing faster than ever before and mostly in countries where =
there is=20
      a strong anti-Christian sentiment driven either by politics, =
nationalism=20
      or religious ideology.=20
      <P>He says that 1 million new churches have been started in the =
last 10=20
      years and twice that many are expected in the next decade. About =
70,000=20
      new members are added each day.=20
      <P>Terry Madison, president of the U.S. affiliate of a sponsoring =
group,=20
      <A href=3D"http://www.opendoorsusa.org/dayprayer.asp">Open =
Doors</A>, says=20
      he has discovered in his travels that persecuted Christians often =
pray for=20
      believers in the West.=20
      <P>"Their concern is that they would not be distracted by =
materialism," he=20
      said.=20
      <P>Christians in the Central Asian country of Turkmenistan, =
Madison noted,=20
      told one of his group's leaders: "Please pray not that our =
persecution=20
      will go away, but that there will be enough persecution to keep us =
focused=20
      on our Lord, but not too much that it would break us."=20
      <P><B>Countries of concern</B>=20
      <P>Totalitarian Turkmenistan, a former Soviet republic, is one of =
the=20
      nations recently recommended by the U.S. Commission on =
International=20
      Religious Freedom as a "country of particular concern," or CPC.=20
      <P>Each fall, the secretary of state decides which countries are =
found to=20
      have "engaged in or tolerated particularly severe violations of =
religious=20
      freedom." Once a country is designated, the president opposes =
those=20
      violations with a specified action ranging from a diplomatic =
demarche, or=20
      reprimand, to economic sanctions.=20
      <P>The list of countries the USCIRF has recommended to the =
secretary of=20
      state this year reflects the fact that most reported persecution =
of=20
      Christians is carried out under either Islamic or communist =
regimes.=20
      <P>Islamic nations on the list are Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Saudi =
Arabia and=20
      Sudan, while communist regimes are China, North Korea, Laos and =
Vietnam.=20
      The commission's recommendations also include India, where =
militant=20
      Hinduism is on the rise, and Burma's militaristic tribal regime.=20
      <P>America's strategic ally and trading partner Saudi Arabia has =
been=20
      recommended several times, but never chosen by the secretary of =
state as a=20
      country of particular concern. Critics point out that this =
rejection is=20
      made despite the State Department's repeated assessment that =
freedom of=20
      religion in the kingdom "does not exist."=20
      <P>In its report this year, the USCIRF says the "Chinese =
government=20
      remains a particularly severe violator of religious freedom. =
Persons=20
      continue to be confined, tortured, imprisoned, and subject to =
other forms=20
      of ill treatment on account of their religion or belief."=20
      <P>In North Korea, according to the USCIRF, "religious freedom =
remains=20
      essentially non-existent. The commission says it has received =
reports=20
      "that officials have arrested, imprisoned, tortured, and sometimes =

      executed North Korean citizens who were found to have ties with =
overseas=20
      Christian evangelical groups operating across the border in China, =
as well=20
      as those who engaged in such unauthorized religious activities as =
public=20
      religious expression and persuasion."=20
      <P>Iraqi Christians have generally enjoyed freedom of worship," =
the USCIRF=20
      says, but "in early 2002, the Iraqi government reportedly passed a =
law=20
      placing all Christian clergy and churches under the control of the =

      Ministry of Islamic Property."=20
      <P>Christians praying this Sunday, however, are more likely to =
focus=20
      attention on places like Sudan, where a declared jihad by the =
militant=20
      Khartoum regime on the mostly Christian and animist south has =
resulted in=20
      more than 2 million deaths since 1983.=20

      when women are captured by government forces they are asked: "Are =
you=20
      Christian or Muslim?"=20
      <P>Women who answer "Muslim" are set free, but typically soldiers=20
      gang-rape those who answer "Christian" then cut off their breasts =
and=20
      leave them to die as an example for others.=20
      <P><B>'Scapegoats of choice'</B>=20
      <P>Open Doors' Madison said that the International Day of Prayer =
has had a=20
      "marked impact on the church in America and its understanding that =
there=20
      is a part of our body that actually suffers for its faith."=20
      <P>The prayer movement began in 1996 through coordination of the =
<A=20
      href=3D"http://www.worldevangelical.org/">World Evangelical =
Alliance</A>, a=20
      global umbrella of national church bodies. In 1998, <A=20
      href=3D"http://www.persecutedchurch.org/">Prayer for the =

      Inc.</A>, took oversight of the IDOP organizing efforts in the =
United=20
      States while WEF continues to coordinate the IDOP internationally. =

      <P>Though a Christian effort, it got much of its spark from a =
Jewish=20
      lawyer, who remarked in a 1995 Wall Street Journal article that =
unless a=20
      serious effort is made to confront persecution, Christians are =
likely to=20
      become the "Jews of the 21st century, the scapegoats of choice of =
the=20
      world's thug regimes."=20
      <P>Michael J. Horowitz, a former staffer for President Reagan, =
recalled=20
      that an Ethiopian pastor who lived with his family was denied =
asylum in=20
      the U.S. despite being jailed 25 times and enduring torture for =
his faith.=20
      The State Department sent a letter to the immigration service, he =
said,=20
      stating, "There is no persecution of Christians in Ethiopia."=20
      <P>Horowitz, senior fellow at the Hudson Institute in Washington, =
D.C.,=20
      said that on one occasion the pastor was hanged upside down with =
hot oil=20
      poured on his feet.=20
      <P>Former New York Times columnist A.M. Rosenthal, also a Jew, was =
one of=20
      the first in the mainstream media to write about persecution of=20
      Christians.=20
      <P>In one column, he said: "If I were a Christian, I would =
complain that=20
      Christian leaders, political, religious and business, around the =
world=20
      have failed in their obligations to fight oppression of their=20
      co-religionists. I am complaining anyway."=20
      <P>Madison said that while most churches in the U.S. have a small =
core of=20
      believers with a passion to pray regularly and lobby on behalf of =
the=20
      persecuted church, most Christians who participate in the day of =
prayer=20
      don't retain their interest after Sunday.=20
      <P>"Sadly, most church congregations listen, give assent to =
prayers =96 may=20
      actually pray them =96 but in terms of long-term change of life, =
I'm not=20
      sure that it's really moved and shaken the church the way we hoped =

      our State Department.=20
      <P>U.S. immigration law requires the fingerprinting and =
photographing of=20
      people from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Sudan and Syria (the State =
Department's=20
      list of terror supporting countries) when they arrive here. It =
seems the=20
      least we could do. Last week, it was announced that Canadian =
citizens born=20
      in those five countries would be subjected to the same measures. =
Ottawa=20
      called it "discriminatory" and "unfriendly," and issued an =
advisory for=20
      its citizens to reconsider travel to the U.S. Our Ambassador in =
Canada=20
      immediately backed off.=20
      <P>Why Canada? For starters, the Canadian Security Intelligence =
Service=20
      (CSIS) has a long and detailed dossier on the operations of =
Hizbullah in=20
      that country. The (Canadian) National Post reports that CSIS has =
documents=20
      detailing how Hizbullah laundered money through Canadian banks =
while=20
      drawing on the accounts to purchase military equipment - including =

      blasting devices, night-vision goggles, powerful computers and =
camera=20
      equipment. According to the (Montreal) Gazette, in reports dated =
April=20
      2002, CSIS showed that in 1999 and 2000, Hizbullah sent lists of =
required=20
      items to agents in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal. The equipment =
was=20
      shipped to Lebanon by courier.=20
      <P>The Post writes that Canadian police and intelligence reports =
show the=20
      group has been using Canada to forge travel documents, raise money =
and=20
      steal luxury vehicles. But, "Even as they lived in Canada with =
their=20
      families as immigrants the Hizbullah operatives apparently =
remained=20
      disdainful of their new surroundings, denouncing 'the Canadians =
and the=20
      Zionists' in a wiretapped conversation." According to CSIS, =
Hizbullah has=20
      been using Canada for more than a decade.=20
      <P>CSIS made its information available to U.S. attorneys =
prosecuting=20
      Hizbullah operatives involved in a cigarette smuggling ring that =
raised=20
      huge sums of money. We took the information seriously; hence the =
concern=20
      about nasty people crossing what remains the longest undefended =
border in=20
      the world.=20
      <P>The Canadian PM still defends Hizbullah as a political =
organization and=20
      even after the CSIS report, the Foreign Minister said of Hizbullah =

      fund-raising, "We don't believe it would be appropriate to label =
as=20
      terrorists innocent doctors, teachers and other people who are =
seeking to=20
      do charitable and other good works in their communities." The =
Canadian=20
      government is naive in the extreme. But worse, the State =
Department=20
      responded to the huffy criticism of American caution by revoking =
the=20
      order. Has OUR government decided that phony cries of =
"discrimination" are=20
      a greater threat to American security than the possibility that =
people who=20
      used Canada's open society to plot and finance terrorism might =

      let's face it:<BR>WE HAVE NEVER BEEN BETTER OFF!!!!<BR>It's only =
TV and=20
      the media that make people think<BR>That the end of the world is=20
      coming.<BR>Only 60 years ago, they were leading Jews to their =
death like=20
      sheep to the slaughter!<BR>No Country, No Army. 55 years =
ago!!<BR>Seven=20
      Arab countries declared war on the small Jewish State, only a few =
hours=20
      old!!<BR>We were then 650,000 Jews! Against the rest of the Arab =
world! No=20
      IDF [Israel Defense Force].<BR>No mighty Air Force, just tough=20
      people<BR>With nowhere to go. Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Egypt, =
Libya,=20
      Saudi Arabia, attacked all at once.<BR>The country the U.N. "gave =
us" was=20
      65 % desert.<BR>The country started from scratch!<BR>35 years =
ago!! We=20
      fought the three strongest armies in the Middle East, and wiped =
them out=20
      in six days.<BR>We fought against different coalitions of Arab=20
      countries,<BR>With modern armies, and masses of Soviet Russian=20
      weapons,<BR>And we still won!!! We have today a country, an army, =
a strong=20
      Air Force, a Hi-Tech Economy, exporting =
millions.<BR>Intel-Microsoft-IBM=20
      develop their stuff here.<BR>Our doctors win world prizes<BR>For =
medical=20
      developments. We made the desert flourish,<BR>Selling oranges and=20

      people,<BR>With China, with 1.1 billion people,<BR>With the =
Europeans --=20
      France, England, Germany, with 350 million people, the only =
countries in=20
      the world<BR>To shoot something into space!!<BR>Israel is today in =
the=20
      world nuclear power family<BR>With the U.S., Russia, China, India, =
France,=20
      and England.<BR>[We don't admit it, but every one knows...] To =

      only 60 years ago, We were led, Shameful, With no hope, to our =
death!!=20
      <P>We crawled out of the burning ashes of Europe,<BR>We won our =
wars here=20
      with less than nothing in our hands, we built an "empire" out of=20
      nothing.<BR>Who the hell is Mr. Arafat to make me scared?<BR>To =
make me be=20
      terrified?<BR>You make me laugh! Passover was celebrated;<BR>Let's =
not=20
      forget what the story is all about.<BR>We overcame Pharaoh, We =

      the Greeks,<BR>We overcame the Romans,<BR>We overcame the =
Inquisition in=20
      Spain,<BR>We overcame the Pogroms in Russia,<BR>We overcame =
Hitler,<BR>We=20

      which part of human history you try!<BR>Think of it, for us, the =
Jewish=20
      people, our situation has never been better!!! So, let's lift our =
heads=20
      high,<BR>Any nation or culture that tried to mess around with =
us<BR>Was=20
      destroyed - while we kept going!!!<BR>Egypt?<BR>Anyone know where =
their=20

Macedonia?<BR>The=20
      Romans? Does anyone today speak Latin?<BR>The Third =
Reich?<BR>Anyone heard=20
      any news about it lately?<BR>And look at us, the nation from the=20
      Bible,<BR>From Slavery in Egypt, We are still here,<BR>Speaking =
the same=20

      yet,<BR>But, they will learn that there is one God.<BR>As long as =
we keep=20
      our identity, We are eternal.<BR>So, sorry for not =
worrying,<BR>Not=20
      bitching, Not crying, Not being scared.=20
      <P>Things are O.K. here. They surely can be better, but still: =
Don't fall=20
      for the media junk, They won't tell you that there are Festivals =
going on,=20
      that people keep on living, that people are going out,<BR>That =
people are=20
      seeing friends.<BR>Yes, our morale is low, so what?<BR>It's only =
because=20
      we weep for our dead<BR>While they enjoy the blood.<BR>This is the =
same=20
      reason why,<BR>We will win, after all.<BR>You can forward this=20
      e-mail<BR>If you choose, to the whole Jewish community,<BR>And to =
people=20
      throughout the world.<BR>They are part of our strength.<BR>It =
might help=20
      some of them to keep their heads up high.<BR>Tell them that there =
is=20

      <P>Editorial - The New Republic=20
      <P><FONT color=3D#800000 size=3D+2>"H</FONT>ow many Frenchmen does =
it take to=20
      hold Paris?" goes the old joke. <BR>"Nobody knows."=20
      <P>A little nasty, perhaps, but it suggests the deeper issue =
underlying=20
      France's continued opposition (as of this writing) to a resolution =

      threatening force if Iraq obstructs U.N. weapons inspectors: Why =
is France=20
      on the Security Council at all? Paris got its permanent membership =
(and=20
      thus its Security Council veto) as a reward for having helped =
defeat Nazi=20
      Germany. But while the French suffered under Nazism, it was the =
Americans,=20
      Russians, and British who defeated it. (Winston Churchill's envoy =
to=20
      France famously called Charles de Gaulle the heaviest cross he had =
to bear=20
      during World War II.)=20
      <P>Another rationale holds that France owes its seat to its status =
as an=20
      independent nuclear power. But India now boasts that distinction =
as well,=20
      and--with its massive population, growing economy, and third-world =

      democracy--it would be a far more compelling choice. In truth, =
France's=20
      fantasies of grandeur--fantasies that are decades, if not =
centuries, out=20
      of date--would be laughable, except that they are taken seriously =
in=20
      Turtle Bay. And so the Bush administration must endlessly =
negotiate with a=20
      country whose Iraq policy is motivated by petro-dollars and =
anti-American=20
      resentment, particularly the anti-American (and anti-Western) =
resentment=20
      of its Muslim immigrant masses.=20
      <P>Why not stop the charade and let France veto the Iraq =
resolution? The=20
      United States and its allies could, on their own, eliminate the=20
      unconventional weapons of that most unconventional tyrant, Saddam =
Hussein.=20
      And, as a side benefit, the United Nations would suffer a =
humiliation so=20
      profound that it might force some long-overdue reconsideration of =
the=20
      Security Council's anachronistic composition. For international=20
      organizations to be relevant, privilege must follow power, and for =
them to=20
      be admirable, privilege must follow decency.=20
      <P>Nothing would more dramatically further both goals than =
dethroning=20
      France.=20

when all=20
      else fails, some of the more incorrigible hearts and minds need to =

      atomized. That's where the U.S. Predator unmanned drone comes in.=20
      <P>In northwest Yemen on Sunday, a certain Qaed Salim Sunian =

      was travelling by car with five other notables when a Hellfire =

      released by a Predator soundlessly lurking at high altitude, hit =

not be=20

al-Qaeda=20
      attack on the USS Cole two years ago -- an attack that took 17 =
lives; his=20
      unfortunate friends were lower level al-Qaeda operatives.=20
      <P>The operation was a model of cost-efficiency: For the price of =
a single=20
      air-to-surface missile, originally manufactured for anti-tank use, =
CIA=20
      officers and military personnel -- who guided the Predator from an =

      air-conditioned control room in Tampa, Fla. -- eliminated six =
terrorists=20
      who were collectively responsible for dozens of murders and, =
presumably,=20
      were planning many more. The enterprise is believed to be the =
first lethal=20
      attack outside Afghanistan using the Predator (though Israel has =
deployed=20
      the weapon for its own, similar purposes). As such, Sunday's news=20
      represents a welcome advance in the U.S. war on terror.=20
      <P>Surely we are not alone in our admiration for the Predator. =
