Zoom gives the user several options for audio. I have my stereo 
connected to my computer so I check the box for computer audio. If your 
(older) computer does not have a built in webcam (which is a camera 
combined with a microphone), a webcam can be bought on Ebay for $20. I 
recommend Logitech 310 as your add on webcam. Other more recent devices 
- smart phones and tablets - have camera and microphone built in. Zoom 
is cross-platform so you can Zoom on your smart phone or your iPad 
(=tablet) or with your webcam equipped computer.

So Charlie I recommend you buy a Logitech 310 on Ebay for ~$25. Just 
plug it into an empty USB slot and install the Logitech 310 software and 
connect your stereo to your computer to hear what others are saying. To 
connect your stereo you need a cable that has 2 old-time RCI connectors 
on both ends and a dongle that plugs into the audio ouput port on the 
back of your computer which is color-coded green. The dongle has 2 RCA 
connections on one end and the other a stereo 3.5mm stereo connector 
that plugs into the computer.. You said you had a smartphone but 
returned it. I sympathisize as I consider smartphones to be the work of 
the devil.
