Just about all of Stanley children and grandchildren were there.
Of our merrry Austin Ghetto crew, only myself with wife Madelon
and Fontaine with her brother Sam attended. Lots of Stanley stories,
got to meet a number of old Scholz Garten types, Fontaine and
Sam left earllier than we did to go to a memorial or funeral for Jim
Barry. I remember him vaguely. Sorry to hear that he died. He wasn't
old like me, was he? Bill Pratt showed up, so great to see him.
Wife Madelon spotted Simmons across the garden but he did not
join the mourners, so far as I know. Almost everybody was able
to recall some interesting doing or saying of Stanley's - he had
an interesting life. He had 4 children with his first wife, Teeta,
one with Rosalind whom we met, none with Julia or his last wife
the blond beauty whose name is lost to history. The book about
Austin that Stanely often spoke of has survived and has been digitized.
I was asked to take a look at a few chapters for my opinion of
its publishability. I was told that it was short on narrative and
reads something like a stream of consciousness a la William
Burroughs. We'll see.
