Saw signs saying to avoid going to Houston or Beaumont due to gasoline shortages and/or no electricity to pump it. I'm driving to Atlanta tomorrow. We are taking the Northern route, to Dallas and then taking I-20 the rest of the way. Thanks for sharing your hurricane story.
Best,
Frances

Aftermath of storm sent Randy and I packing to the family farm near Shiner, where we spent several days in more or less bucolic splendor. Dogs sleeping at our feet, cool breezes, watching hummingbird antics. We had spent Saturday morning right after the storm blew out, cleaning up the broken tree limbs, and concluded that, with no power, we had to leave the unbearable heat and humidity.  Strangely, no traffic getting out of town Our mood changed considerably as we drove west.

We kept in touch with employers and neighbors giving us updates on power status. Cell phone signal was sketchy, and there was no cable TV out there, so we didn't really know what was going on in town.

Called in by work, we returned yesterday morning in time for me to thoroughly clean out the fridge.  Getting ready with candles for a dark evening at home, I was surprised with 'lights' at about 5:30 pm. Lucky, lucky us. Last night, with cable TV, I saw for the first time, video of the Galveston and Bolivar Peninsula damage.

I will be on duty all day today in a van with a technician helping restore traffic signal operations (in the burbs) where we find them with the power on.

Later,
Connie
