Very rewarding to see Oscar's death making so many newscasts. I would guess
the most publicity of any jazz musician in recent memory. I have his page
dialed in on Rhapsody and am spending Christmas morning listening to his
music, currently his album of Cole Porter tunes.
Very cold yule AM here, single digits. Running low on firewood during a 3
week cold spell. Also running low on the energy required to split more,
might have to drag out the electric heater wherever it might be. Big 71
coming up in a couple of weeks. Alas, whatwith the years and the
increasingly more active cancer I am growing old, even seeing the world
through the eyes of a senior person, thinking of dumping a ton of
possessions, thinking of moving into town and a small apartment and one old
car, just the computer, basic wardrobe, couple of guitars, a few books, and
kitchen stuff. Don't know how near the end might be but definitely not far
enough to make long-term plans.
Meanwhile, my companions this Christmas will be the sandhill cranes, a
couple of hawks who roost here (both giants, one a northern harrier and the
other a big red tail). And, of course, the huge full moon in Cancer near the
solstice. The owls and/or the bobcats have taken my cats. I bought me a
couple of nice Navaho rugs from a good buddy who trades in same. They really
brighten the living room. Also a Kenny Hill guitar, which brightens my soul.
Happy Holidays to you all,
G
