[AGL] Joe Fish multiple myeloma

Just checked Joe into the cancer ward of Methodist Hospital in San 
Antonio. Over the next two days, they intend to kill his bone marrow. 
That would normally be a fatal procedure, since your marrow generates 
all your red and white blood cells; after six weeks or so the old red 
and white ones would die off and no new ones replace them.

Except, in this case, after the third day they will resurrect him by 
reinfusing his marrow with his own previously collected stem cells.

This is called an autologus stem cell transplant, and they think it 
will buy him at least five years.

His room number is 805, but don't rush to visit as he will be 
temporarily without an immune system. You may call him at (210) 
575-7805 after the first couple of days when he's feeling other than 
dead.

Meanwhile all cell reproduction will be temporarily stopped, so he will 
lose all his hair, eyebrows, eyelashes, fingernails, etc. To prepare 
you for his new look, he has shaved his head, and we have modeled some 
possible secondhand wigs (photos by C, Brady):
