[AGL] Sauve, France

Thanks Byron for forwarding r crumb's drawing of multi-storeyed 
houses of Sauve looking over the Viderle river in Sauve, France. 
Below is also the shot of the town square from the NYTimes story.

As someone says in a comic the important things in life are amitie
and immobilier. you are where you live. real estate is destiny.

there is a chance that we may sublet a french lady's subsidized
apartment. she lives in montpellier. this is an HLM, a subsidized
apartment complex on the outskirts of town. we've been there,
it is a graceless semi-slum on the #10 bus route. from the 
terrasse of her sixth storey apt you can see in the distance the 
Pic de Loup mountain peak. we may even have an arrangement 
to drive her little car. she has broad-band internet, tv and a VCR
and DVD. tub, no shower. why one would want to be in 
Montpellier escapes me.

as it turns out Sauve is 50 miles away. as a thought-experiment
i can imagine myself renting a squalid apt in Sauve and making
it a point never to meet Aline or r. i will NOT join her twice-weekly
pilates exercise class. when after some time there i find myself in a 
conversation with a French and asked as an americain if i know
Aline and r. I shall replay "Je sais qui ils sont." (I know who they
are). His next question would probably be 'Why are you living in 
Sauve?'

The view from Aline & r's patio, looking back at town, is
what it is like to look at poverty row French real estate. Wet 
stone walls in the rain (when it rains - often) and missing 
windows covered with plastic will give you the instant blues.
