Carolyn,
I suspect I must be a burnt-out case. Did I rant on about the
post office way back then? And television? I didnt have a TV
back then nor did you. I think Bob Charles got one when he
married Susan Goss. And did I not use ZIP codes on my
letters? Alas, all these foibles have fallen into the memory hole.
I learned that the USPS will NOT deliver postcards without
a ZIP code but I believe that they will still deliver first class
mail in envelopes even without a ZIP code. My next
discretionary 39 cents will go towards testing this. I got
a postcard once from Mike Hershey mailed from Cape
Cod addressed to me at the last house on the left on
West Ninth street and it duly arrived. That was back when
the postman read addresses. You are right about the vibes
at the postoffice. I note that they have removed the clock
on the wall behind the counter. Perhaps they learned this
at supermarket summer school. The supermarkets have
also removed clocks so the customer wont realize how
late she is running and will stay and buy more crapola.
Perhaps without the clock, customers will buy more stamps
or get less pissed off about the long slow moving line or
be able to clock how long it is taking.
Best to John,
Mike
