Frances,
When i read your post i thought "but Ralph White is dead."
Then i realized that his son Ralph was in/had a band.
I never met Ralph junior but we used to go sailing with Ralph &
Ruby White on their sailboat on Lake Travis. They had
another sailboat on the coast. Ralph White senior was
a B-24 test pilot during doublya-doublya-too. He designed
and built a retirement home/studio/gallery next door to an
upscale marina on the lake. He had the kitchen and bathroom/spa
tiles and ceramic sinks done by one of Stanley Walker's ex-wives.
This Xanadu complex had only 1 bedroom so the kids
couldn't stay over as Ralph explained to me.
When he was still teaching painting at UT he & Ruby
lived in a stone house he had himself built in the 50s.
Fletcher & Libby "bought" this house on Buckeye Trail in
West Lake hills after Lilly was born. When floating in
the swimming pool you saw a straight shot of the UT
tower. This house was subsequently demolished and
replaced by an enormous house made entirely of concrete,
like a military bunker. When I say "bought" it was
actually part of a complicated real estate deal engineered
by Libby's real estate/law professor father. Ralph
White ended up owning the building at 713 East
Sixth street which Libby's father had had built. It
was stores in front but in the back was a hidden
studio apartment built for Libby when she was at UT. You
may remember Fletcher parties there. Stanley Walker
as was his wont had built a spiral staircase to the
roof in a closet but when we lived there for a while
later on the staircase had been torn out.
