Mike-- I would apologize if I really knew that I  had "twisted" anything. As 
I recall, you said at the time that the email was a private one between you 
and Jim. You said when I asked to see the actual words rather than your 
paraphrase of one or two lines, that you had destroyed the message and 
couldn't produce/reproduce the exact text. It may be that you shared the 
exact text with Frances-- I know she is a very good friend of yours, someone 
you might trust with something so personal.

I was a very old friend of Billy Jim-- we went to high school together. When 
I asked him personally  about the message, he said that he never sent you 
anything that was similar in tone or language  to the "paraphrase" version. 
At the time, I must confess that I had no idea what was the "truth of the 
matter." I was confused, hearing such very different accounts. I felt both 
of you would have had reason to distort the reality or the existence of the 
message. So I can't really say there was such a message or if was distorted 
in some way or lied about by anyone. If Frances wishes to attest to the 
veracity of your account, and especially if she actually read the message in 
question, I will yield to your ,and apologize for doubting you.  I believe 
Frances to be a truthful person with no motivation to distort things. On the 
other hand, I wouldn't blame her if she chose to remain silent.

Frances who has a bear trap strong memory remembers the email. Whereas your
memory has twisted it around so that you urged me and i refused to make
public his email. You owe me an apology.
