Michael,
I love the imagey of that sculpture on the back of the truck in front of your house. I hope someone got a shot of it? The losses of such giant talents to early death seems to cascade, from Wendy Wasserman to Red Ryder, and now Jackson and Luiz Heminez, in so short a time. Thanks for writing the sweet personal obituary note--I admire Luis' body work inspired sculpture more than any other contemporary Texas artist.
Best,
Frances

Our good friend Luis Jimenez, sculptor and super talented
artist, died yesterday in an accident in his studio in Hondo NM.
Luis studied art at UT in the 60s, moved to NYC where
he first made his breakout fiberglass sculptures and became
famous in the art world.
He was killed when his 32 foot sculpture fell on him. Strangely,
very strangely, when he was a student at UT, working under
his Triumph TR3, it fell from the jack stands onto him and
injured him.
I will never ever forget him parking his pickup truck and
trailer with s humongous fiberglass sculpture on its way to
Houston across the street from our shabby little bungalow
on West 9th street. He knocked on the door and told me
to look across the street.
I will be speaking to wife Madelon Saturday morning she
sojurning in France on a canal boat for the next month. I
have not and shall not inform her of the many deaths of
friends this summer: Kathy DuBose, Jaxon and now Luis.
Mike
