Death claims our attention...
Tribute to Red Ryder (written for obit page at www.wcfish.com)
Though I only knew Red Ryder as the most talented performer whose act I ever had the privilege to see live, his masterful juggling made the art look effortless. From the flawlessness of his solo act, you just knew that he had spent heroic amounts of time in practice to make it come off so perfectly. It was just him, gloriously defying the laws of physics to an audiences astonished delight. His pleasant, tolerant persona came through whether on stage or off. For someone of such monumentally talented star quality he did not exhibit a moments guile, sharpened his skills rather than his ego and possessed the pleasant, amenable personality we fans came to know and love.
He joins Joe Hollis, William Dente, Margaret Wiley and Marco as beloved Esthers Follies alumni who so enriched our lives and have taken a final bow.
Just as close to home is the passing of Kathy Dubose, with whom I shared most my adult life here in Austin.
Frances
