Perfectly consistent with Judaic religious beliefs which expunged "God's Wife" from litany/liturgical writings/etc. a couple of thousand or more years ago. The "Western" world has always been synonymous with "Men's" world. Oh, happy Day.
All "Earth Mother" religions have been ruthlessly suppressed. And, it ain't because of differences in Dogma. Most "Western" religions are equally ruthless in their desire for More. More Land. More Money. More Souls. More Warfare. More Money for their "leaders".
Spirituality runs a distand third or fourth. G*D is a convenient fiction specifically designed to justify male dominance of religious issues.
Pox on 'em all, says I.
Peace to you....in Gaia's name.

yep, I went with the fam to see it Friday night. I liked it, but of course, hadn't read the book, so don't know how it compares.
It is sort of a far fetched story. I mean a lineage from Jesus Christ would be quite extensive, with a lot of families, not just one pretty little French lady.
I didn't know or realize the extent to which the Catholic organization, Opus Dei, would go to keep women from the pedestal, and emulate Jesus' chastity, in their religion.
a nice tale of fiction and a little bit of an expose on religion.
