Harry,
I am painfully aware of the third world state of the State when it comes to the interests of women and children. The only segments getting representation are those who are able to buy it, plain and simple and that doesn't include most women and no children.

I agree with your assessment of past governors, and even think Ann was a washout. Indeed, because she was such a disappointment in office she paved the way for Bush in cahoots with Bobby Bullock who once bragged in a meeting, quite out of context, that he has a really big dick. No one pointed out that the emperor's big dick preoccupation was showing, but the story did come to me by way of a witness after Bullock died.

The g'd-old boy's club is deeply entrenched in both parties. Chris Bell, on the other hand, in contrast to the past panoply of preposterous a-holes occupying the governor's office speaks to the heart of the issues you raised as though a blast of fresh air entering a vacuum. I am still suffering from Nader-burn and that's why I decry the Kinkster's campaign. It's not that I disagree with him, or dislike him or the stands he takes, I just doubt that he is electable and I think his race hurts the Democratic candidate more than it does either Goodhair or Gramma.

I WANT A NEW GOVERNOR, DAMMIT--one who is proud to be a liberal and a Democrat.
  Frances

Okay, I'll rise to the bait (gulp). Kinky may be a lot of things, but
dim-witted ain't one of them. Try this one, Jon:

Texas ranks rock-bottom in providing for the basic needs of its
youngest and poorest residents. More than one fifth of Texas children
have no health insurance at all.

In 2003, Texas legislators slashed the Children's Health Insurance
Program, pulling the rug out from under 170,000 kids. Not only did this
put more of our children at risk, it ended up costing the state tens of
thousands of health care jobs and $16 billion in lost productivity.
Kinky believes this is reckless and short-sighted—no way to invest in
the future of Texas.

We're a state that prides itself on friendliness and responsibility,
but the message we're sending our kids is that if you're going to be
born poor, you'd better not be born in Texas.
