Well, thanks for the update.

So many interesting things have gone on in Austin over the years. How did Sidney get hooked up with Paul Simon I wonder?

Knew a Sidney once in LA. Think she married a doctor in Malibu or something similar. Sad.

Before Nadine married Bob Eckhardt, she had been married to Bill Brammer and they had at least one of her children, Sidney Brammer, who for a time was married to Paul Simon of Simon and Garfunkle fame, now divorced. Nadine and all the girls lived in NYC for awhile but after a few years they returned to Austin.
Nadine worked for LCRA and is now retired. Back in the '80s Nadine opened a restaurant named Nadine's in East Austin, cattercorner across from Cisco's. Like so many other businesses it went South with the economic setbacks of 1986. The restaurant days were when she and I became acquainted. The food was good and the patrons interesting. With the Reagan-Asleep-at-the-Wheel eco-debacle no one, including myself, could afford to eat out any more.
Nadine's biography is in ms at the UT press and is about to be published.

Oh, where does the Brammer bit fit in with Nadine? Any relation to Bill Brammer?

      Wayne,
Sonleitner, after years of holding the office, has been a disappointment. First she snuggled up with them-that-brung-her, the developers, and has imperiously let the office go to her head. She supports the effort to cover the county with toll roads and treats those who come before the commissioner's court with disrespect bordering on contempt.

Sarah Eckhardt, daughter of the late Honorable Bob Eckhardt and Nadine Brammer Eckhardt, a treasured friend, worked for eight years as a prosecutor in the Travis County Attorney's office and has had dealings with Sonleitner which led her to run for County Commissioner in opposition. He is also carrying on a family traditon of public service. I consider her a refresh ing bright spot on the political landscape.

At a candidate's coffee at Jim and Debbie Parish's Thursday evening she characterized herself as an insider running to improve what's been going on, or not going on, in some cases, like not having an integrated county-wide computer system in place after it was authorized ten years ago. I'd say that's quite a bit of footdragging.

More later, the grandkinder has arrived and wants to go fishing...

        Confused I am.

          Igor,
Another winner! I'm off to do phone calling for the Sarah Eckhardt for County Commissioner campaign. If you know anyone who votes in any #200 precinct, they will be able to vote to roust incumbent Karen Sonleitner off the Commissioners Court and be a vote to keep Travis County toll road free.

It's about RIGHT OF WAY, dammit. In Houston the rep eated toll booth beat out congestion for interfering with the flow of traffic. It's just another tax, that impacts low income people most. That is despicable. What will conservatives stoop to next?
In Portland I crossed a toll bridge that had stopped taking tolls because the bridge had been paid off.

Well! It's a fine kettle of fish that here the roads proposed for impeding with toll booths are already built and paid for! Let them eat losing!
          Best
          Frances
