Well said. My spirit is with those at Camp Casey right now. Wish I was there.

Perry is just such a doink. He's vapid. Something about him gives me the creeps. I should think his less than sterling performance with these special sessions wouldn't be exactly sterling resume material. But the political landscape has become so bizarre I can't pretend to read it. Wouldn't totally write off the possibility of some space warp or parallel universe action; It's like one of those cheapo scifi flicks where only you, with your special glasses, can see the evil aliens among your fellow shoppers. I look at Perry and there's this flashing neon sign that says. "LAME. JUST FREAKING LAME."

Anyway, Tom Delay is surely an alien. You can just barely see where he had the antenna removed.......

Thorne,
I also agree with all the points you made. I wonder if Chris Bell isn't better known in Houston since he ran and won his congressional seat in Harris County? I had never heard of him before I heard him speak at the Deaniacs Meetup at Scholz Garten and he sounded so good I signed up on the spot along with a whole slew of others made enthusiastic with one hearing. I loved everything he said, and the way he said it. I hope to hell that Perry and Gramma cut one another to ribbons and that Chris peaks about July of 2006. I'll report back on the Sunday rally.
This is my first time to visit the MLK statue.

Chill. I agree with you. We need to mobilize behind viable Democratic candidates wherever we can (as long as they're not gutless posturing Republicans Lite). We must do it for survival, and fast, before they totally consolidate power, gerrymander and legislate and intimidate themselves into a virtually impenetrable position, consummating whatever unholy and unthinkable bargains they make with the filthy rich, and establish a virtual religious state, before "dissent" and "treason" are made synonyms under the law and before simply shaking down the poor lacks sufficient kick and poverty becomes grounds for indefinite detention. (Whew! I need a nap.) But I guess I don't figure Kinky to be a threat to a serious Democratic candidate. I guess I just don't see him as an Ahnald (even if he may be starting to think of himself that way). I think he'll just energize things and draw more attention to the race. I personally think that people are so alarmed by the state of things that they
would flock to a viable Democrat and wouldn't seriously consider throwing their votes away. Kinky might draw
in first-time voters and some washed up cynics and country fried intellectuals -- but my guess is that a substantial number of such Kinkster groupies would, push come to shove, actually VOTE for a Democrat if such a Democrat is truly making a race of it. And I guess bottom line I believe that humor and fun make Republicans -- especially the pursed lip self-righteous ones -- seriously ill at ease. Out of their element. Could be totally out to lunch with this one, but that's my top of the head read. Speaking of lunch.....

The religious right is tight with the entrenched status quo. A Democratic victory would devastate the religious right AND the Republicaners. A "protest" vote for Kinky, whose idea of protest is to not vote at all, is an equally empty gesture. If you want entertainment buy a ticket and attend a performance. The Kinkster hasn't a snowballs chance in hell and would be even less effective as governor than Ahnold or Jesse, neither of whom proved to be exceptional leaders. Comedy and music run on nuance, which is not terribly effective against the likes of DeLay and Rove. Politics is hard ball.

Of course what you say about Kinky is valid, but man would it freak out the religious right!

Jon Ford <jonmfordster at hotmail.com> wrote: The Kinkster business is typical if what goes on in politics today-- embrace
of "fake" candidates who are really just celebrities with no real experience
or desire to run a state or work with legislators. The list of guys like
this who have won on name and failed once they got to the big house is
getting longer all the time-- Jesse Ventura and Arnold to name just two
(well, you can add George W. Bush for that matter). Kinky is funny and
creative, but if he wins it won't be a big step forward for Texas.

<;In other political scuttlebutt I also plan to support Chris Bell for the
Democratic candidacy taking on Gov. Goodhair this fall. His formal
announcement and campaign kick off rally is on Sunday, Aug. 14, at 2:00 pm
on UT campus at the foot of the MKL statue near 23rd and San Jacinto. He's a
proud alum.
>Whe n Chris Bell spoke as a virtual unknown to some 200
Deaniac-style Democrats in Meetup at Scholz Garten in the Spring he got a
standing ovation from the entire room. He is smart and focused and respects
the electorate enough to tell the truth. That's a new political gambit for
sure in these times. Unlike the Kinkster, I feel sure he voted many times in
the last ten years, even in the US House of Representatives where he
represented Harris County. His district was carved up by the Deadly Delay
Political SWAT team with the Redistricting juggernaut we witnessed in the
Texas Legislature. It's get even
