PBS is showing one of my all-time favorite movies on Sunday night.  WHALE RIDER. 
Based on a 1986 novel, the award-winning, critically acclaimed WHALE RIDER is a cinematic retelling of a 1,000-year-old Maori legend about a New Zealand tribe whose members believe their leader arrived on the back of a whale.  Pai, a 12-year-old girl, dares to challenge the ancient traditions of her people despite the opposition of her grandfather, who refuses to believe a girl could be the next leader of the tribe.
