Actually what Tom is doing is a continuation of what LBJ began in 1944 =
when he started twisting the arms of wealthy Texas oil men to create a =
slush fund for demo candidates and causes all over the country. He =
continued this practice for years and his cronies such as the Brown =
Brothers gave generously. Now the politics of Texas favor the repubs and =
Tom DeLay is the pursor and arm twister and the next generation of Brown =
and Root is called Haliburton.
So what's the difference? LBJ was not ideologically driven,he had a =
foot in both camps. LBJ was a political genius who understood the =
nuances and personal flaws of friends and foes alike and used them to =
his advantage. DeLay is a narrow, highly prejudiced man who is drunk =
with power and the most brutal, direct form of bully politics...no =
nuance. It will be fun to see him fall, and he will, if not this year =
then sometime soon. He is dangerously afflicted with the power disease =
and a poor player when the playing field is level.

I don't really know much about campaign finance laws and such things =
as the purpose for TRMPAC. But is it essentially, that efforts by DeLay =
to participate in raising money on behalf of Republicans is 'mafia-like' =
and could be included in anti-organized crime law? He is known locally =
to lean heavily on anyone wanting to do business in Washington for large =
campaign donations.
Just curious since we have heard of 'ethics' violations this week, =
thanks to our own Congressman Chris Bell and Travis County's DA.
