when I first came to Austin a number
of people filled me in on the local
scene the first week it seemed: read
The Gay Place for example.
i was soon told of Travis Rivers who
had left a wife and was the father of
a child of a young woman who had
attended St Stephen's, the
Episcopalian prep school west of
town. and soon met him which was even
better. he was working at the used
bookstore on 11th street right next
to the television station. he was
playing chess with Lance Fletcher
(no, i'm not making that name up)
later on the husband of the woman
who taught horsepersonship at
St Stephen's was my pee aitch dee
advisor
around the same time i started
hanging out with Mike Hershey
who had also attended St Stephens.
but in all these years i had never
BEEN to St Stephens - in the
physical sense
Sunday my roommate & I drove
out there for an Indian dance/music
recital.
i cant imagine how anybody ever
got there before Loop 360 was
built
but Austin topography is weird.
Hershey once took me on his
sickle up to where Hancock
Drive deadends. i was amazed!
Connie surely Hershey took you
to that vantage point at some time
or other, no?
