http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milgram_experiment

there is a 1974 book by a gent named Milgram
which is down the street at the Austin Public=20
library; their catalogue says its on the shelf.

i thought it only fair to mention this BEFORE looking
at the book.=20

that Stanford Univ students would descend to=20
seriously abusive behavior of their fellow students
the students being arbitrarily divided into jailers and=20
prisoners is so counter-intuitive (to my sense of=20
reality) that whether true or not (I'm betting its an=20
imposture), it explains it being so quickly becoming
a received truth, it tickles the fancy of the non-subtle.=20

now this gent, Stanley Milgram, was on Jim Lehrer's
News last week. very odd looking, extremely tanned
(or jaundiced) strangely sculptured planes making
up his face, a beard -- natch! -- and a strangely high
piping voice.

he was introduced as thought he was the experimenter
at Stanford nor did he point out that no, he wasn't=20
the experimenter but the author of a book that cited
it.

I quickly phoned Frances to alert her to watch Channel=20
9 and see Milgram. She had mentioned this so-called
experiment to me a day or so before and at that time
I had poohpoohed as most likely bogus.

Well, I'm off to the library to get the book. At worst
I will be proved wrong, this does happen from time=20
to time.
