Not much of a Godard fan, judging from this review I
would find this new film boring. I'm not interested in
characters reading blank books, quoting random quotes,
filming something backwards for no apparent reason.
Perhaps I'm missing what makes this compelling.

I didn't care for two Goddard films I did see. At
least I think they are Goddard films: Breathless, and
Alphaville? Don't actually remember much about the
latter at all.

I did see one Goddard film I liked: the one he shot on
super eight about the young Maoist university
revolutionaries. What I liked about this was a
sequence of a conversation (were they actually
speaking? perhaps so, perhaps not) in a train
compartment, filmed with little movement of the camera
as the trained rolled along -- we looked past the two
characters to, and out, the window.

That was a rather neat effect, especially with the
colors.

If Goddard thinks France is aesthetically ugly
today--did he ever much like France in the first
place?

Anyone have any idea why he did this latest movie?
