Tary sends his love back to you, with thanks for all the good wishes.
Talking with him is challenging as he has a rude tumor stuck to his tongue, and for instance, his brothers name 'Ben' came out sounding like 'mem'. Anyway, I found him alert and happy to have visitors yesterday afternoon. Maryann had already gone off to a motel, and around 6 I was joined by a family friend who had just 5 years ago been a throat cancer patient there. I guessed, he may have been helpful in getting Tary to MD Anderson where his brothers wanted him to have the very best care. The problem seems to be his inability to feed himself, so he is 'tube' fed. There are complications with blood sugar levels as a result, etc., so he has to be closely monitored.
He has been approved for a chemo therapy that has minimal side effects, but they are keeping him in a nursing facility in Houston for that (couple of weeks?). I'm not sure exactly where it is, but somewhere around the Galleria.
The flowers from the 'ghetto friends' were so beautiful. I asked the nurse about the no fresh flower signs around, and she explained that they did have the rule in the past, but have recently changed filter systems, and they are now allowed. So guess, the message has not gotten out to all of the maintenance folks there.
Tary asked me to go ahead and change the water in the vase for the ghetto friends flowers... there were several really nice colored roses, deep orange, red and a pink, a large purple hydrangea, glads, daisys, lilys, hollyhocks, and a pair of those sunflowers, I think, called the teddy bear sunflower (kinda fuzzy). He's enjoying them.
We're going out of town, so I won't be able to visit Tary again until next week. I will try to find out the new address and get back so you can know where to send cards.
Connie
