Is this significant in a small way?

last night Jim Lehrer on the Jim Lehrer News
hour explained why he had stopped showing
snapshots of dead American soldiers at the
end of the program identified by name, age
and home town with NO sound accompanying.

He said that he had discontinued doing this
when Bush announced the end of hostilities
about a month ago. Seeing as there were now
56 American soldiers killed since the "end"
of the war, he, Lehrer has decided to resume
showing their snapshots as they became
available. Last night he showed 33 snapshots.

When he discontinued this I had thought that
maybe the Bushies had intervened seeing as
Lehrer is on public television. But as it
seems public television is fairly independent
at least up to some point short of calling
for Bush's impeachment.

I also learn that a recent poll indicated
increasing public dissatisfaction with the
course of events in Iraq.

As conditions there are continuing to worsen,
less electricity than a month ago, most of the
sewage treatment facilities out of commission
(with its consequent effect on disease and
morbidity), continuous looting, oil line
sabotage and massive unemployment, the
situation by the November 2004 may make Bush
unre-electable.
