just 6 weeks after the fall of Baghdad the occupiers
already seem to be in a no win untenable situation.
they cant get out, cant leave so they MUST make a
good case for staying on. this will turn into the
light at the end of the tunnel and Iraq will become
a Vietnam even WITHOUT many US Army bodybags going
stateside.
of now only of historical consideration is WHAT the
Bushies were really after. Oil? there is some talk
of getting the Iraqis to privatise their oil
patrimony and have it sold to the major oil companies.
but that is impossible, Iraqi oil was nationalized
many years ago just like the other Arab oil
producers.
lucrative rebuilding projects for Halliburton?
no matter how much money ever goes into Halliburton's
pockets, it could hardly be the reason for the
Bushies deciding to go into Iraq all things
considered.
how did they imagine they would control the angry
Iraqis afterwards? whenever the locals get and
stay angry, its extremely difficult to keep the
peace and it requires lots of soldiers. think
northern Ireland.
did they really assume that there was NO question
of them not being friendly received by the locals?
hard to figure out what they believe/believed
