Sex as Snack

One of the many truly mind-blowing things about Thai society is the
absolutely casual, if not absent-minded, way a lot of folks treat sex.
While they tend to mature rather late (I've had 18-year-olds tell me "I
cannot. I am still baby.") once they get going they screw with gay abandon
(pardon the punne). Down side of that is the wildfire spread of AIDS and
other STDs.
Buddhism doesn't really have any strictures about sex, at least Thai
Buddhism (Tibetan uses it pointedly), and while the lethal combination of
whiskey, firearms and a mercurial character make the Thais occasionally
homicidal in their romance, it doesn't have to do with the Act as much as
the intent, or the social contract.
The way that te casual nature of the physical exercise is regarded is one
reason why so many gay Western folks travel to or live there. Thais think
homosexuality is puzzling or silly, if they think about it at all. If you
are a flaming phagocyte they'll have a good laugh at your expense, but
swishy types can be seen holding down positions of responsibility all
through Thai society.
There was even a drag queen kick boxer who did quite well for him/herself --
until he/she finally decided that she wanted to truly be a she, and got
fixed.
