O Iraq O Iraq

the Bush administration has wisely blown off any
serious attempt to civilize Afghanistan outside of
Kabul. no money was asked from Congress for this,
and this is wise.

Afghanistan should be left to find its own level
of (mis)rule. one can fairly say that al-Quaeda
has pretty much been destroyed as a serious danger.

but this will not be possible in Iraq. a police
force of foreign soldiers of the sort who have
brought law and order to Kabul but nowhere else
in Afghanistan will have to be found somewhere
to bring temporary order all over Iraq. and then
what?

after 30 years of Saddam the Iraqis are totally
divided against one another. the Sunni (the
minority elite) were complicit with Saddam, the
Shia tend towards Islamic fundamentalism, the
Kurds are something else. the country will be
as stable as Lebanon.

of course Bush and company were lying about the
weapons of mass destruction (which have never
been found nor will be) and that Saddam was somehow
complicit in 9-11.

so the war is pure adventurism, driven by the
neo-conservative activists like Kristol, Perle,
Chaney who made the empty Bush into the instrument
of their agenda.

i doubt anybody will be very surprised as things
in Iraq start going downhill rapidly now
