Cold ass day my cold ass!
We here in the Old Dominion have been having one cold ass day after another.
It has risen up to 32 F this afternoon. We still have a foot of snow on the
ground from The Great Blizzard of '03 and are expecting more snow for the
next three days! Brrrrrrrrrr.
Yes. You should stock up on things like firewood, canned goods, drinking
water, water purifying equipment (now quite cheap). Electrical generators
run from $300 to $3000 but you must, repeat: must, have the proper circuit
breakers in place in your house in order to isolate your "input" line from
your new current. This, among other things, keeps power workers from getting
killed as they try to fix the problem elsewhere. Windmills used to work. Of
course, there has to be potable water down there somewhere. Root cellars
aren't a bad idea and doubleup as potential storm cellars. Isn't this
cheery???
I think reasonable precautions are a good idea. Recent postings and other
input have pretty much convinced me that there is very little one can do or
needs to do to deal with "attacks", but localized infrastructure damage could
be quite challenging. Cell phones may or may not work if the towers are
without power.
So maybe a CB radio Ghetto Emergency Breaker Breaker Network might not be a
bad idea. If times get tough, friends are worth more than anything else.
