Mike.  There is a new game in town.  It is called: Buy My Big =
Textbook..or Flunk.  Instead of using libraries, students now get to buy =
$80 to $150 textbooks which they will a) hate b) sell back on their way =
home from the final.  Business interests outweigh educational interests =
every time.  Besides....all knowledge is now on the web, right?  Right?

every time I go to the UT's virtually empty library,
I am amazed and depressed to see virtually all the=20
students on the street in front of the library carrying=20
enormous backbacks. only the prettiest co-eds eschew
this practice. thankfully these beauties are vain and=20
narcissistic enough to realize what they would look
like strapped to a backpack

(UT is the largest campus in the US with approximately=20
50,000 students)

it seems there is now a protest movement abuilding against=20
this absurdity which you can read about if you so choose=20
in the NYTimes article i have referenced above
